"Recent attendance at The Burning Man surpassed 15,000 wiccans, satanists, goddesses (white witches), nudists, and a consortium of other lost party-goers, who converged on the hot Nevada desert for a Labor Day weekend of "glorious Hell on earth."
...
"The Burning Man is a no-holds-barred New Age "Woodstock" style festival, where neo-pagans, wiccans, transvestitie entertainers, and back-slidden Christians go to trance, perform rituals, burn sacrifices to pagan gods and goddesses, dance in the nude, engage in sex, and otherwise "express" themselves and become one with Gaia."
AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!!! Now THAT'S a fuckin' PARTY!
The Xtian whackjobs remind me of going to Ozzy concerts in the early '80s all over again.
Just wait until the Christians start gathering outside the gates to protest the event and save lost souls. Standing in the sun, sucking up the dust...pretty soon they're gonna have to publish a Survival Guide, build shade structures, contract with the BLM...

Oh Gawd, not that story again. Please, how many times can someone recycle the same dang thing? It's been 5 years, how about coming up with something new? And I wonder how many other references I can find to that very article on the eplaya? Yeah, been there, read that, read it again, and fucking again....
Can we deep six this thing about 30 miles off the Golden Gate and be done with it?
By the way it's late this year. It should have surfaced early last week for maximum effectiveness.

Otis also admits that he met many friendly, creative and intelligent people at the Burning Man festival, and he encourages believers to contend for such lost souls in prayer.

No. FuckyouJobu. Not all of us have gotten a chance to enjoy it because we haven't been e-playa geeks for the last X amount of years.Kinetic IV wrote:Oh Gawd, not that story again. Please, how many times can someone recycle the same dang thing?

It's a reminder to bring some garlic, a mallet and a wooden stake in case these Xtian fundie fuckers show up at the gates. Or just supersoakers.

Comdemnation before Investigation
EVERYONE, every...single ...ONE...who has given a negative comment about Burning Man, I cut 'em off at the tongue with my light saber with "STOP!! Have you ever been to Burning Man?" Not a SINGLE one has, yet they ALL seem to have a lot to say about an event they have never attended!!

I'm pretty disappointed in the article. Burning Man is identified as a part of a trend towards a "staggering revival of idolatry and eastern mysticism" that includes non-xian symbols on the great seal of the US among other places, LaToya Jackson and Dionne Warwick pimping for various psychic hotlines and Nancy Reagan and (allegedly) Hillary Clinton seeking guidance from astrologers.
We're way eviller than that! Come on, Dionne Warwick? Ok, I'll grant you Nancy Reagan. But still. Dionne Warwick? Has she ever even fought in Thunderdome? I don't think so.
Sheesh.

Swampdog, NEVER underestimate the intrinsic evil that is Dionne Warwick.Ok, I'll grant you Nancy Reagan. But still. Dionne Warwick?
Imagine the soul crushing experience of drunkenly wobbling into your camp at 3:30am. Your sleeping bag beckons. You hit the hay. Your slumber is assured.
Or so you think.
Three hours later you hear the first silence piercing notes of Up, Up and Away (In My Beautiful Balloon) off of her mega smash album 'Valley of the Dolls' (1968) being played at 16.5 rpms on a 700 watt stereo and pumped out by two Klipsch 'La Scala' speakers. Oh, and the song is playing on a loop.
Scared now fucker?
Camp 60's! is back and we're sharing the love baby.[/i]

now that's funny
In an extremely frightening sort of way.
It does give me ideas on how to wake up Adrian in time for the Iron Liver contest however......

I like playing with fire.
Why give them acknowledgement?
Yes! Lets have a wonderful Pagan time celebrating! I think I shall give away a pentacle or two in honor of those "good" folks!! Perhaps its best not giving them any acknowledgement on this site.

Wow -- Each side has good points.
Some very odd points in the articles, and some basic good points given their perspective (i.e. orthodox conservative careful repressed moralists). Unfortunately, it seems that the persons writing the article did not really take the time to understand the whole mix of people, and the sarcastic nature of many camps, and the serious fun of some others, and that some camps are just following their basic right of what ever expression or religion they choose. The articles seem made from a retroactive mindset like the opinions that early Spaniards and other early Europeans had of Native Americans. In some ways the articles can help add proof that this type of event is still necessary to show how much limitations of cultural awareness is present, and how closed mindsets are still rampant throughout the world.
At least the Burning Man only asks for a large sum of money up front to join in, and not more money every week or so, and the Burning Man does not try drive a huge number of conflicting rules on its participants, at least not that I notice that much.
What about all of the hypocritical treatment one might receive at the so called moral religions leaders like abuse, slavery, mandatory wearing of certain clothes, and so on? The articles did not mention the harsh treatment of many religions, and they failed to see that the Burning Man event does not really try to hide how one is going to be treated, and in many ways you are encouraged to be an individual.
Very interesting perspectives from the articles and the Eplaya, but I do not necessarily agree in whole or in part. One good thing about Burning Man that should not really be denied by anyone, is that it gets many people to think about many different things that are important to the Human Race; some serious, some silly, and some that are almost beyond comprehension.

You so know that the person who runs Worthy News is reading this after having seen all the referral hits to this forum, and he's going to include what you just said in a quote proving the evil that is Burning Man.robbidobbs wrote:Let's sacrifice a virgin! We'll dance around something large...hmm what would be a large effigy worthy of this honor.
And where are we going to find a virgin of legal age?
Christ! We'll just have some nubile priestess that's re-virginized!
This could be fun.
Well, if that's the case, all I have to say about that is... PRAISE SATAN!
Christians Invented Satan!
Check out your history. Pagans have a "Horned God". This is not Satan. The early Christians twisted the concept of the "Horned God" to manipulate the masses with fear of the afterlife. They are still doing so!

Satan
As a life long Pagan I would like to get something very clear. Satan is not ours, the whole devil/hell thing is christian. That guy is their boogy man.
I get so tired of even people who should know better thinking Pagan ritual is Satanic.
Fuck Satan.
Peace

Why isn't anyone complaining about the oh-so-subtle infiltration of the Unitarian Universalists? Next, you'll barely get past the Greeters before being forced to don a turtleneck and watch some vacation slides while choking down Triscuits and Sanka. I barely escaped from their devious clutches with my vague skepticism intact!
Oh, FYI...No, they do NOT worship "the Big Unit".
