Any air conditioned tents . . . my wife is pregnant

We are long time burners and hope to come. My wife is pregnant and might need a cool envirnoment at times. Do any camps have an air conditioned tent. Thanks.

What do you already have? If you have an SUV, you can get a tent that attaches to the back of your SUV which could presumably be cooled by the SUV AC. If you don't want to get an SUV tent, she could always sleep in the car. If I were you, I'd rent an RV, trailer or van or something just for the AC. Another option is to get a window AC unit and a generator and cool your tent that way.

If you're really bound and determined to come, come hell or high water, it might be worth your while to think about ways around having A/C.

Consider a mist tent. Get one of those screen gazebos or a carport and wire it with a mist line attached to one of those handpumped garden sprayers. No toxic fumes, no extra power to bring along, lowers the ambient temp about ten degrees, and your wife doesn't spend the burn hiding in a car.

Get a tent that has cross-ventilation and park it under a shade canopy. I have the SUV tent and I used the Bernoulli effect to keep it cool, only charged up the engine once in the whole ten days to keep the battery alive. I also kept it cool in there by covering the windows with thick tapestry blankets during the day. The key to coolness is Deep Shade.

Another option would be to admit that this year is worth sitting out, if the situation is so critical that you're thinking about hanging out in an air-conditioned vehicle all day.

Well if this tent attaches to the back of the SUV, where the exhaust pipes happento be located, then the toxic cloud will be denser and more concentrated as its being held in by the tent. Other than that, Vehicles most likely have higher volumes of exhaust, especially if were talking about a V8. so... yeah, What about a swamp cooler? they make some fairly portable ones, oh and LPG A/C units, like the ones used in RVs and such... Rent a pop up trailer with an a/c unit in it... That's about all I got..

Mine doesn't include the exhaust pipe, it stops at the bottom of the bumper and the exhaust pipe is outside and off to the side.

I think if they trapped exhaust from the exhaust pipe the company would get the pants sued off 'em.

This is what I'd do (in fact, I'm looking for a used travel trailer) . There should be some that are light enough to tow with anything.

I have been checking the theme camps and there is a camp that claims to have an air conditioned tent, the Geisha House. Cold tent and cold sake. No sake for my wife of course.

We debate about coming, but with a baby coming this will probably be our last burn for many years so we do hope to come.

Common sense tells us that if it gets too hot we always have the option of packing up and leaving, and we would exercise that option if necessary.

Have a good burn everybody.

You COULD, I suppose, make a mini chill house with some Reflectix and a bunch of ice....Just something big enough to put a comfy chair in when things get overwhelming. You could even retrofit one of those little camp outhouses, by superinsulating it and keeping it in the shade with some hunks of dry ice or an ice-and-fan setup.

We had an RV last year and I seem to remember the weather being good enough that we never had to run the generator during the day (except during mornings when we were sleeping). We just left the windows open and enjoyed the breeze. Of course, this leads to more dirt inside the RV and the related cleaning fees (which we just blow off, anyway, since we never have enough energy after Burning Man to clean out an RV). In fact, in five trips to Burning Man, I don't remember ever being that hot at Burning Man while under *proper* shade (as discussed in another thread earlier today, shade that blocks UV) so your shade area alone might be sufficient -- and this is from someone who was born in NY and hates excessive heat. As far as the generator goes, maybe you could add extra baffling to the generator area (allowing for whatever safety precautions you should take such as exhaust) to mitigate the noise if you do run it a lot.

And you're right -- if it gets too bad, you can just leave. Burning Man will be there when you get back. :D

Actually, if you can borrow a good sized solar panel (100 watts +), you can use a voltage inverter and one of those portable "swamp cooler" box fans...they look like a regular box fan, but have a resovoir for water and cool quite well, although they do use a gallon an hour...

Just be careful, watch out for tent stakes, guy wires and other obstacles, especially at night. (new moon this year) Have fun, you're burning for three!

I'm sorry but why would a pregant woman go to burningman? Doesn't that create unnecessary risk for your family? Doesn't seem to bright to me.

It depends on how advanced the pregnancy is. People do it every year. (Not the same woman, of course.) As with any medical condition, I recommend a serious talk with the doctor first as well as an evacuation plan if it turns out to be too much. And good prep guided by thinking it through.
