DISASTER at the BURNER HOSTEL

Post by hageymon » Tue Aug 23, 2005 7:54 am

OUR ENTIRE 30' X 60' SHADE STRUCTURE HAS BEEN STOLEN, on a utility trailer (NV#61465S), plus our tow vehicle, a 1990 GMC Suburban (dark grey with red stripe, NV#993PMV) from a parking lot in Sparks. Unless recovered immediately, WE HAVE NO HOME FOR 125 PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE WORLD. WE APPEAL FOR HELP! HAGEY at 775-358-5080, FISH at 219-614-1835, SANTA at 219-614-1835.

That's really a disaster, Hagey. So people in the Reno area will keep an eye out for the suburban and the trailer, the police have been notified, and so on.

What specific help do you want assuming the stuff isn't recovered? Since it's only a few days, what can we do to help you get your group out there?

From what he's said on another thread he needs shade and transport. A couple of people have offered smaller shelters (mere fractions of the 900 square feet lost) I'm not sure if anything is firm yet. (It may depend on their packing room.) Some talk of collection of money has been made, but nobody's set up any practicals with that as yet. So if you have a shade structure (the larger the better--125 camp members flying in from overseas) or access to a large truck or trailor to transport same that's the immediate concern.

POSSIBLE GOOD NEWS: Actiongrl is ON top of this and MAY be able to scrape up a 40' x 40' currently located at the work ranch, and another Burner is bringing a 10' x 30' unit. We MAY be SAVED! More news as it comes in, and thanks for the CONCERN expressed.

Action Girl is good people. I'm glad that things are coming together and that you're feeling less glum about it. Anything we can do, let us know. And take care of yourselves.

We'll watch out for your rigs. Glad to hear that the immediate needs are solved.
Anything we can do, please post...

BURNER HOSTEL

OMIGAWD!

I am SO OVERWHELMED by so much WONDERFUL SUPPORT by the Burner Community that my Inbox has EXPLODED beyond my capacity and I have no choice, for now, but to send a goofy-ass GENERIC FORM LETTER to everyone, until I can get my head above water, AFTER the Burn, to properly thank everyone!

Please be patient, as your kindness will not be left unacknowledged!

And the GOOD NEWS is that the BORG and DPW have JUMPED into the fray and are going to provide us shelter!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

It's NICE to have FRIENDS in San Francisco!

We'll worry about buying a replacement for the stolen one LATER!

Hagey.

Yeah! Three Cheers! I knew this would happen when you posted here two days ago. So glad that we rallied and gave you what you needed. Have a great burn!

TOTAL MELTDOWN at the BURNER HOSTEL

Post by hageymon » Thu Aug 25, 2005 5:58 pm

In a nutshell, the authorities are SHUTTING US down, due to complaints
by a FEW neighbors who know how to use "The System" to their advantage.

We were BOMBARDED today by officials from the City of Sparks, County
Health Department, Sparks Police, and Sparks Fire Department.

Effectively, we cannot house or assist most of the people who are
expecting to find friends here, an oasis, shelter, rides, and support.

We need people to come here, but park away from here, and NOT park on
this street, walk down here, and ADOPT people who need your help, and
take them away from here as rapidly as possible, starting tomorrow and
all through Monday and Tuesday, and do whatever is necessary to give
them the Burning Man experience they were expecting, and the
hospitality they were expecting.

Please show the World what Burners can do to support one another when
they are unified and inspired.

We need a MIRACLE here!

TWO ENORMOUS setbacks this year is too much to bear...

Please do not e-mail us or call us on the phone, which only makes
things worse.

Please help these people.

This BRIBH is now effectively only a footnote in History after many
years of success and will no longer exist at this location in the
future.

Please pass along this message to any and all list of concerned
Burners.

Hagey. Very sad, in tears, frustrated, angry, and exhausted.

May I suggest that, while it's very important to broadcast this on as many topics as possible, it probably makes sense to unify any discussion or comments to one of those threads? This thread: http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... highlight= seems to have a discussion started.
