Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrggggggggg!!!!!

I love the fact that the mayor says he doesn't want "people going blind" through home brewing. I HATE this myth! If you use grains to ferment (which is what beer is)- you will NOT get methanol in any quantities worthy of note. You have to deliberately be trying to get methanol from non-grain sources and then DISTILL THE DAMN THING!

In order to get 'bad' alcohols from a grain distiallation, you would have to save the initial portion of the distillation over numerous batches (the portion you throw away) and then drink quite a bit of it besides. You literally have to be trying to poisoning yourself.

Yeah, Mayor Rocky usually isn't quite so short-sighted; probably misinformed. After all, he was one of the ringleaders at the anti-war rally a couple days ago when Bush visited Utah.

I've been out for a while. I see that the organizers have hired Brian Fucking Barnard. This is a good sign for them. (For those who don't know, B-squared has been fighting and winning civil liberties cases in UT for a very long time, including taking back a block of main street from the LDS church that was sold illegally. Mayor Rocky did sell it back, but he actually made a lot of good out of it, and felt it important to fulfill the city's obligations regarding the deal which was struck by his predecessor.)

I've met Mr. Barnard a few times, and tend to follow his cases. He's very good, and one of my heroes.

Incidentally, Wes Losser is not Mayor of SLC. He's mayor of South Salt Lake. Rocky is extremely intelligent, well-informed, and liberal (suprisingly). I had to go and check when such a quote was seemingly attributed to him, because I would have been extremely surprised had it been.
“We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.”
