RV Parking

Post by Arkansas Traveler » Fri Aug 26, 2005 4:15 am

This will our first time and we will be arriving Thursday night.
Is there a methodology to camping with our RV? Or do we wait til we arrive at the gate and are assigned a place?

Unless you are part of a registered theme camp, RV parking is wherever you stake your claim.

BMOrg's Survival Guide has suggestions at
http://www.burningman.com/preparation/e ... unity.html
and see "After Dark Arrivals."

This may be semi-good advice if this is your first time, depending on the time of night. If you're not getting there at some ungodly, single-digit hour, I'd suggest that you drive on in and park, then hit the playa on foot (remembering where your camp is), then decide on where to camp in the light of day.

Driving at night is dangerous and an aggravation to campers who may be trying to sleep. Driving during the day is less dangerous, but still an aggravation to campers who may be trying to sleep.

Good advice by all. We will probably camp at the Gate when we arrive and check out the different themes on foot.
I thougth that the RV's were segregated away from the camps however.
Please enlighten me.
Thanks

Well, you won't be camping at the gate itself, you'll have to drive in what, half a mile? get through the greeters station and then pullup a piece of real estate on the outer road, Hysteria.

Theme camps have reserved places, they are marked and easy to spot in the daylight. All open blocks are a mixed bag and there is walk-in camping which you wouldn't take an RV into anyway. You'll get a map at the greeter's station. It is a good idea not to pull up on top of a camp that's primarily tents, but there should be plenty of places to choose from once you get into the city. Who knows? You may like the first place you stop.

Yeah, definitely just drive in and park on the fringes. Go have some fun, get a good night's rest, then find a better place in the daylight. Somebody actually hit our RV last year while driving in. No note or anything. Thanks guys.

No, but you might get some crap from tenting folks on two grounds: (a) it's not a true burning man experience if you shut yourself up in an RV, whereas if you sleep in your tent, you get to enjoy having your sleep interrupted at all hours, and (2) if you run a generator in your RV, you'll aggravate everyone with the noise and smell.

What they are trying to avoid is having the esplenade and inner streets be nothing more with a bunch of RV's parked, forcing the more showy/decorated/interactive camps out to the fringes.

Too late to join a theme camp, I'm sorry to say.

Start your own. :->

Create "Camp Old Fart"

Serve alcohol in Geritol bottles, everyone in the camp uses a walker, and you call everyone who walks by "whippersnappers."

You're more than welcome to hang out at the gate with the rest of the crew, but its not very exciting, and usually pretty dusty.

We usually get good beer, though.

Many thanks.
I understand that COLD beer is the elixar for all who man the gate.
It will our pleasure to help assuage your thirst.
Geritol might not be our style yet, Red Bull maybe.
We look forward to joining and sharing

For first-timers? No. Just go enjoy the event. After this year you'll have a dozen or more theme camp ideas for next year.
