no vehicle, no stove, no camp = totally fucked?

Post by Cosmic Code Authority » Sat Aug 27, 2005 2:43 pm

I have a tent and sleeping bag. no camp, no camp lined up except for a vague promise of accomodation if I can find one person in a particular village. do you mock me and spit on me or do you think I will do all right? I will know many people at BRC, just haven't discussed the idea of camping beforehand. other than e-mailing Foodlab last night and offering to trade cooking services for meals.

as I said, I have a tent. no place to cook food, though. I expect to come into BRC around August 29.

The cheapo butane stoves cost about $20, but if you cant find or afford that, dont worry too much.

You dont really need a stove out there. Just bring food that doesnt need to be cooked. Soup is good, Pre-made rice or those cool tasty-bite packages from Trader Joes. Set it on the roof of a car for about half an hour and chow's on.

MRE's are always a good substitute, too.

You dont need a camp. Just set up and enjoy yourself.

Sleep in your tent. Let the sun kick your ass out of it maybe earlier than you wanted, go find shade and serendipitous adventures of the shady kind elsewhere. Bring your water, granola, other basic no-cook stuff like the judge said, and all other survival items. Go offer your services and songs and stories and jokes; there are bound to be a few hot meals out there for you that way. And in the middle of any "Wow, I should do/bring x, y, z costume/art project next year" thoughts that we all have on the playa, be sure to add "and some shade, and a stove."

See you out there. I'll save you a beer.

Indeed. If all goes well, dont be surprised if you start planning out your trip for the following year while you are out there.

Remember my tagline and all will go fine.

You'll be fine (especially if you hook up with a camp). Even if you don't, you'll be fine. Tons of spare shade and friendly people in BRC.

thank you for the information. my optimism has increased.

when I went before in 1998 I found myself starving most of the time. (though I weighed like fifty pounds more then than I do now.) early on I contributed all my food away to an unofficial camp where I knew some people.

not one stranger offered me food (or for that matter drugs) during the 1998 Burn, by the way. many offered me drink even though I don't drink. make of that what you will.

A few years ago, some dude had an art project I disagreed with. His friends dropped him off naked in Center Camp and his project was to survive. Within an hour he had a tent, clothes, a canteen, and a whole lot of other shit.

I think his project defied the philosophy of BM, but who the fuck am I?
