Neighborhood CopWatch
Tell us your Cop encounters.
I noted a BLM golf cart that was turning a gap in our camp area into a highway and confronted them. I saw them cruise through during the day three times in about 20 minutes, so I ran after them to question them. They were quite defensive and not at all friendly.
I had a hard time even getting their names out of them. They informed me that they had every intention of cruising through camps, ostensibly to search for art cars without licenses.
I promptly road blocked the highway they had made, and kept a vigilant eye. I did notice them oggling some of the ladies in our camp as they went by and I informed them that they were offending our privacy and modesty. they were incredulous. modesty at burning man?
I told them they were presumptuous to say the least.
We clearly need a neighborhood cop watch program, complete with rights, information, and techniques and protocols for encounter, and discouragment and perhaps even counter-surveillance..... The cops are ticks on burning man. It is clearly to my mind a reverse situation where we need a cop watch where most cities need a burglar watch.
bloody parasites.

Due to the high volume of gifts our bartenders received, we had a special flower pot for all the (MOST WELCOME) schwag. I put it in a bag on the last day so we can split it up later and finally saw all of the contents. Daaaaaaaamn...
If a drug dog would have come through our camp, we'd have had some 'splainin' to do.

The night of the burn, two BLM rangers pulled up next to us; they were checking out the guys shooting bottle rockets into the crowd. (We were thinking of finding BRC rangers to talk with the fools, but the BLM got there before we could make a move) We "watched" their golf cart to make sure it didn't wander off, they gave me a cool BLM truck blinky pin when they came back.
Heck, they're just people doing a job. You may not care for what they must do, but don't be an ass about it. I have never treated "them" like the enemy and have always had good encounters. Of course, there's the entire I don't break the law thing because I'm a boring old fuck, YMMV.

My cop encounter:
I served them coffee. One took it with Half and Half and just a little sugar. The other drank it black, which was okay because the coffee was really good.
They thanked us. Asked if we had any donuts. We laughed.

Live as if everyone loves you and thinks you look great. Dance as if no one is watching.
I'm happy for you if you had a good encounter with our BLM friends or other LEOs. Always be polite. Give at least 4 or 5 feet distance to them so as not to intimidate them.
Ask for help from a Black Rock Ranger first and always avoid the LEOs if you can.
I was, as alway rigorously polite and downright formal, but they are creepy chick ogglers nonetheless, doing a job they don't have to do.
If you gave a cop donuts it was not the BLM leos because they as a matter of policy cannot even accept water....
Those of you where around before the LEOs showed up; when you were on your own, and we policed the rude and the ungenerous ourselves quite nicely thank you, will know what I am talking about.. But I guess that is ancient BM history.
The LEOs are here to stay. Time for counter measures and counter surveillance. Control them with kindness and with vigilance.
Know your rights.....

Your world is you antiM to paraphrase Wallace Stevens. If I were a cute little lady such a yourself the LEOs would probably cuddle up to me as well.AntiM wrote: Heck, they're just people doing a job. But, when you are a big scary looking guy who stands a head taller you tend to give them 4 or 5 feet distance. I get and give respect is what I do. We never get warm and fuzzy. A lot of is body type and stereotype.
