CALLING ALL LATINOS!!!
Hey yall!
Hope that everyone had a great burn and got home safely. I am writing an article for El Tecolote, San Francisco's only bilingual newspaper. I am doing an article on Latinos at burning man.
If you were in a camp that was mostly Latinos, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
E-MAIL ME!
It doesn't have to be a latino-themed camp just a group to show that all types of people participate in burning man!
THANKS SO MUCH!
PASS IT ON!

racist graffiti
What the hell is up with the anti-mexican graffiti in the pee-coffins? I saw very little of it, but had several reports from camp mates of anti-mexican graffiti in at least 6 pee-coffins. (4:00 & D.) The people I talked to about it said it was so foul they couldn't even bring themselves to repeat it to me! I don't even know what to say next, as I'm trembling with anger... So, all of you intolerant mutherfuckers (didn't check rules, swearing ok? I can only assume...)who think your coming to burning man with that bullshit, be aware- we aren't "passive hippies" out here; we are passionate life-lovers, & our passion will quickly turn to rage in the face of assholic, inbred, defective half-wits who think anyone gives a flying fuck about the moronic oppressive conclusions of their tiny little minds. You fucksticks need to stay away from our mecca or your going to see some violent-ass mutherfucking pacifists! INTOLERANTS ARE NOT WELCOME AT BURNING MAN. STAY HOME OR WE'LL KICK YOUR ASS HOME!
peace
(ps- I did see pro-mexican graffiti in one pee-coffin)
(pps- to the white boys using the N word at the temple burn- see above)

As a person that uses alot of porta john's here in the central valley of Cal.
I can tell you that JOTS has recycled those johns from job sites and didn't clean them up 1st..(anti-mexican graffiti ) Shame on Jots for that, but cheers for the fine job of Keeping the crap under control. I got to the Playa
on Saturday and saw the Writings on the walls then. So I can say that the
Graffti was imported in.

Don't bring defaultia to Burning Man, take Burning Man to defaultia...... graidawg

Gotta second ibeDave's reply.
Don't assume that the anit-Latino graffitti was BM related. Those toilets have been all over the Reno/Sparks/NorCal and Central Valley region for at least a several years. Hinterland racists are probably responsible for the crude, ugly remarks rather than BM folk.
Just a thought.

CALLING ALL LATINOS
Visite a La Habana y mi Tio Sam va castigarme fuerte.

CALLING ALL LATINOS!!!
"I’ve learned over the years that the two ways that culture is transmitted to us is 1. The food and 2. the language. I had neither. My cousins used to make fun of me at family gatherings and offer me cabesa burritos. Oh, the love of family. I was too ‘white’ to be a real Mexican."

Thanks Dan! I have to agree with you about the food and the language....i thought i had the food part down till i went to live in mexico for 3 months and realized that there are no burritos in mexico and that all the stuff i *thought* were "mexican", such as my mom and grandma's enchiladas were in fact the american version! i've tried to work on the language aspect (took up to spanish 5 in college!) but it never seems to stick when i want to talk.....i can understand a whole bunch though....so at least i have that, i just have to answer in english! ;o)

Curlyhugs, Hi This was my first burn and I had the impression that it would be much louder than it actually was. I pulled in at dawn sun. A cop had his red lights on behind me and another guy. I stopped right at the corner of Hysteria and 6:00. He wanted the other guy so I parked right there in case he was going to invent an excuse to write me too.
I figured that if it was going to be really loud,,,,I was in a good place. I have an old blue Dodge "Power Wagon" truck camper. I guess that it's a lot quieter than in a tent.
I'm a loner by nature so it was a good place for me. I have a sense of community so I volunteered for 2 shifts at Camp Arctica. I ended up working about 10.
If you want the Spanish to stick in your head,,,you have to "live" it. Go to Mexico and get a boyfriend that doesn't speak English.
I worked for 10 years taking caravans to Mexico and Alaska. 5 mo. traveling in Mex and 2 mo. in Alaska every year.
I found that I was learning to speak like a campesino. I went and lived in Madrid for a few months to improve things.
Then I married a young colombiana and learned new words like celosa and quejona. I also learned tramposa and she learned divorciada.
Amor y abrazos,,,Daniel

You crashed a plane at the end of the week!!!!??? You have STYLE girl!!! I wouldn't have the huevos to pull off a grand finale like that. If you plan to do it again next year,,,let me know. :D
I met an American girl in Mex. city who had married into the wealthiest family in Mexico. She was desperate and despondent to the point of tears at the isolation.

we had quite a few south americans in our camp, but we abhor the idea of being identified as a latino camp. as my argentine friend said when told of a camp of argentines and why he would not go out of his way to go over there,
"who cares?" We weren't hiding it. We were serving mate. But we have art to gather around, not the south american countries we came from.
if that rocks your world to identify as latino at bm, hey go for it!
bueno el cilantro, pero no para tanto.
