One cut finger (cutting beer labels when drunk)
one day long bout of sunscreen in eye
3 mysterious bruises on inside left leg
bruise on left knee due to fall tripping over guyline
2 mysterious bruises on inside right leg
fell backward over lamp at art installation, no bruise of note, right butt cheek is a little sore.

all in all I did pretty good this year.

1 fingernail cracked trying to pull up a stake.

1 finger nail ripped- not sure how as it was during the Piss Clear "Playa Iron Liver" contest and my brain wasn't too functional by that point.

Bruises on both legs- no idea how.

Various scrapes and scratches.....no comment.

not too bad, overall.

And not a drop of sunburn on my fair skin. Yeah!

For me - not so bad:

cracked skin on thumbs - day 8
sore feet from uncomfortable (but fabulous) platform thongs
pickled tongue - don't ask.
mysterious bruises on legs.
Hot ember in eye one night dancing at the Lotus Girls installation. ow.

My kids:
Oldest cracked a lip on her bike's handlebars and took great care of it and handled it beautifully. Also scraped a knee horsing around with her sister in the bar (foreshadowing...???)
Youngest got really dried out skin after going for a swim and not getting lotioned soon enough. Moisture just got sucked right out of her. Needed immediate shower with Dr. Bronner's and *lots* of aloe & lotion. Then she was fine!

Worst story:
Campmate and art-car-captain reached under the car's mobile bar and a glass bottle of tonic water exploded in his face. Scratched cornea and minor cuts on his face. He was very lucky. Reminder: *NO GLASS ON THE PLAYA!!!*

Bumps and scrapes

Post by SFLboogie G » Wed Sep 07, 2005 2:34 pm

Ladder fell on my noggin when we were constructing our shade. Tender lump and headaches for a few days, then fine.

Bruised scrape on shin and banged up big toe from construction. Note to self: closed toe shoes!

Weird tongue swellingness halfway through. Best theory: slept breathing through mouth one nite, dried up tongue.

Bruised feet from too much dancing. Little bit of playa cracking on big toes from not obsessing over feet this year.

One camp mate bruised a rib trying to half pipe. Other than that, nothing too serious.

After fever spiking too high tonight.....my husband took me to the hospital where they said I had a staff infection. So I can add that to my list of playa injuries.

Staph infection? Interesting...I wasn't going to post here but I came up with some kind of bacterial infection. When I got back my doctor put me on Zithromax to clean it up. I have no idea how I got anything out there.

I also found out I was allergic to sunscreen, in particular Spectra 3. Hydrocortisone cream cleared that right up but still, it was not a pleasant thing to find out on the playa. And I got a little bit of a sunburn after I stopped using it but it's not bad.

Otherwise:
2 blisters, 1 tiny finger cut, and a bad case of decompression blues which is an almost universal ailment among burners right now.

broke a nail taking down the cammo netting monday morning...
managed to get some nice second degree burns from spinning fans on tuesday night...
fell in love again, dammit, doesn't really hurt yet but i'm sure it will...stupid stupid stupid. i guess i'll never learn!
missing my people. that hurts. ouch!
giant pimple from sunscreen on face, wrong kind. right kind was right in front of face. but somehow i just could not see it...which brings us to:
playa brain wherein one cannot find what is right in front of one, and one continues to forget and remember the same thing over and over again in quick succession (for example, one may be riding one's bike and have intermittent amnesia on any street really as to where one is going, and indeed at times why). and i lost my van. but i found it again.
lots of freckles. they do not hurt.

Knife cut on right thumb extending to my nail as a result of trying to cut a hole in a tennis ball to cover my rebar.

Bruises on my left leg from bicycle pedals caused by trying to jump on a bike while drunk.

Slightly swollen ankle as a result of falling off a bicycle.

Chapped tongue.

Cracked cuticles.

Random scratches on arms and legs.

Sticky, dry mouth from dehydration from too much drinking and certain altering substances the morning after the burn.

Also suffering from a bad case of decompression blues.
I am the girl you will talk to and ask questions to and end up more confused than when you started.

Definitiely the weirdest thing was the new addition of the (new to me) "Playa Tongue"- the first I've ever had... a cracked tongue????!!!
THAT was Frickin' weird, man.

3 gnarly scabby scratches on my leg from the metal inside a blown out RV tire (we've had one each way, the past two years)

1 cut on the side of my knee from trying to get on a bike while wearing a too tight skirt and me and the bike falling over.

1 other cut on my knee from who knows what

A major bruise on my upper arm from who knows what

One slight burn on finger because I wasn't sure if the water was hot enough for coffee.

And that's that! It sure was a great burn!

Only one minor injury here; a scratch on my left Obscene Gesture finger acquired while attempting to tighten down the cap on my water barrel, without the tool intended for that purpose, of course. (In the words of Red Green, "Remember, any tool can be the right tool.")

OF COURSE you watch Red Green. I have to send you a picture of my brother-in-law...spittin' image, even down to the hat.

Slightly split fingertips....cracked lip.....road rash from highspeed dive off of bike to bulldog one of those orange balls that I stupidly kicked in such a way as to send it over the trash fence and downwind about a mile....

Sunburn on Tuesday; lotioned up the next couple of days and kept covered the rest of the week. Didn't even peel.

Inexplicable rash on the back of my right hand; possibly sun-poisoning. Gone now.

The major damage report comes from Friday: Tripped in the funhouse under the Man during the Bellydance Invasion. Two abrasions on my right leg (ankle and below knee) where it caught on those damnable doorways; a bruise on my left elbow (since faded) and a scab on my left knee any 4-year-old would be proud of from when I landed.

HEY! I saw that. I was out at the trashfence that day and I saw all the orange balls. I saw one guy go running for one then some guy tearing it up on a bike to catch it. The wind was so strong that day, I was really impressed on how fast it got caught.
