hmmm...not sure if this should go in the old injury report really...as no one was injured. and it didn't happen on playa...but i am convinced my enduring case of playa head contributed to my rolling my van yesterday morning and totalling it...luckily my three year old daughter and myself walked away without a scratch...but my van is done. dang. rolled me rig. not quite sure how the slide started, wet roads, new pavement...i wasn't even going fast, and it was, as they say, right near my house.

i guess i jerked the wheel at the wrong time with the brakes on and once i started sliding i never regained control of the vehicle. it just made its way over to the ditch, climbed a tree, and flipped back out onto the roadway there...it was all very dramatic what with me and the kid and the cat and all my crap from my trip still in the ole van there, holy moly.

i just went into rambette mode and did the self rescue, got us all out of there, and it was all good. until i had to watch them drag the van down the street on its side...yikes. and bounce it back up onto its wheels again. wow. so several insurance calls later i'm in a rental (thank goodness i wasn't so behind on my bills that they had cancelled me! whew...) which is a gas guzzling 4 by i somehow ended up with instead of the economy sedan...hmmm. anyways...i'm fine. just feel like i've been tackled in a football game where the other team are normal sized football guys and i am me.

there must be some point to all of this, i'm sure it's just escaping me at the moment :)

My friend was riding her bike and hit a car seat that someone abandoned on the playa and didn't mark it. She received 35 stitches in her face, a broken nose and an eye that won't focus like it used to.

that's bullshit.

Besides the safety aspects who wouldn't want to light up their artwork in the deep playa? Nighttime is my favorite time to explore the deep playa and not having the art lit up means I could go right past something outside the range of my headlamp.

Anyway I'm wondering if I'll be upgrading my injury report to include a Giardia infection from the non-potable water truck? I seriously wonder if there's a connection between the water and me getting sick...anyway it looks like it's time to go study up on Giardia!

Giardia is no fun. I got it in Nepal and Mexico. You need flagyl. I bought it online from some place in India.
I followed the water truck on my bike and got a good shower. Afterwards, a ranger told me that a guy walked in the pond where they draw the water. He had a cut on his foot and got a bad infection.
I really hope that your giardia isn't hep B?

I totalled the car as well on the trip home.
65 MPH into the Muskogee Turnpike exit sign. Head on.
It hurt.
It took 5 hours for Budget to send a new car out with a tow truck.
Then halfway through Oklahoma, at one of the toll plazas, the fucking bastard I was with kicked me out on the side of the highway. My mother had to come and rescue me at 6 fucking AM.

Is that sad, or what..

I hope you had the collision damage waiver insurance...or after he kicked you out that his name was on the rental agreement. But the main thing is are you ok? You didn't say anything about that. In any event it's good that you made it back home and had someone that could pick you up.

I got a bad paper cut from the hand-sanitizer box. It's on my right index finger, so it got in my way a lot. Ouch. It's healing well.
I'll be in my blanket fort until further notice.

Yes. I am definately A-O-K.
My left arm is real banged up & bruised.
I'd gladly take some bruises over a broken neck, though. It seemed like worse should've happened.

I got blisters on my feet from walking and dancing.

The usual multiple small cuts on hands and fingers.

My sister in law snapped her tibia sliding down the fire pole in the maze at the base of the man Friday. She tried to do a stripper's twirl, came down too fast and was wearing high heeled pvc stripper boots and a tutu and pink wig and bare boobs (post criti titi), so she looked fabioulous going down. Luckily she didn't find out it was broken till she got back, so she hobbled around with a cane and lots of vicadin and had a great burn night.

Too funny! And I must warn you...Burning Man 2005 was sooo hot, you better keep a fire extinguisher "at hand" for GGW4 next year.

One small nosebleed from blowing too hard; one scratched elbow from inside truck, two tired feet from too much dancing. Never felt so well and sound in my life (even my sore back from work felt better than it has in months). Sorry to those who were injured; perhaps I didn't party hard enough!

Fractured my right wrist falling off a platform in front of one of the sound camps at 2:00. (This was on tues) Was bummed and pissy for about half a day then said 'Screw it, I'm at Burning Man, I'm going to damn well enjoy myself'. Although I will admit, the splint *did* kinda cramp my style.

Campmate got ran into by some drunken jackass on a bike night of the temple burn, friend got his shoulder thoroughly messed up (but not broken, thankfully) while the jackass knocked himself out.

Pay for the car with a visa or mastercard (gold or platinum).
They will cover you in case of a accident, but this is not got for VANS or Rental Trucks!

Had to be put to bed and tucked in when i came back too exhausted from disa"play"in for 3 days. Oh and had me a slight meltdown from having to leave the last day. still having weeping spells. big sissy.... paaah  .

I got some serious playa hand, I suppose it was due to the dust and the fact that I was using them a heck of a lot for...dome building, bike riding and carrying stuff around. I got a small case of Playa hand yesterday putting the dome up again from the dust layer still covering all the parts.
I'm thinking of wearing surgical gloves next year to keep out the dust (if possible) and keep in some moisture.

Anyone else have strange little bruises on their arms when they were on the Playa that they can't account for?

hole in bottom of foot on sunday, a newbie in our camp used tent stakes, short ones that were pointy even on the blunt end.

infected fingertip from biting a nail too close.

burnt finger from cookinh something.

hotdamn this was a good year! 2004 left me with a gnarley 4" scar across my leg after i had a fight in the dark with some rebar. the rebar won.

in 2002 four of my campmates rolled their car on the way home. one was in the hospital for 6 months or so in the burn unit. another wore a halo for fucking ever, like a year and a half. they thought he had died at the scene but luckily they were wrong.

Mart, I have strange little bruises to this day I can't account for. As for playa hand, I thought it was just me!! *G* I found by Wednesday that a quick vinegar rinse followed by heavy duty mostiuriser (I heart body shop nut butter) kept me pliable and playa-ble all week with minimal effort.

Playa Tongue

Post by LoloMojo » Thu Jun 28, 2007 9:28 am

Help!!! Last year I experienced my own very special version of "Playa Tongue". It started out as some irritation on the side of the tongue like chaffing. Then it escalated into full blown canker like sores. I beleive it could have been caused by a combination of playa dust on my camel back water hydration pack nipple and the mechanical sucking action (okay wait this is sounding kinda hot) of my tongue against the nipple and the sides of my mouth while drinking. Basically it just grinds the playa dust right into the tongue.

I tried apple cider vinegar to neutralize the PH but that only aggravated it. A friend of mine had the same thing although his sores became more severe. This makes kissing very difficult!!! The pain began to subside within hours of leavilng BRC and the condition went away within a couple of days after returning home. Playa tongue was a total buzz kill and I would like to avoid it this year or at least be able to treat this condition on Playa. I've read about other versions of playa tongue but has anyone experienced one similar to mine and do you have the cure?

Switch from the hydration pack to liter nalgene bottles. The sucking irritates it. Both from the dust (tho not as much) but more from the sucky vacuum of the tounge against the teeth. Also make sure your electrolytic hydration levels stay up - imbalance can cause eruptions. Not just water, but water with electrolytes. Don't do a lot of caffeine or other amp kinda stuff (especially!!!), and watch your alcohol intake. Finally - take a break. Sleep. Lack of sleep will cause you to suck on or chew/bite the sides of your tounge (subconsciouus mechanism to keep you alert), get some good earplugs and get some rest.

BTW - your mouth is plenty acidic to cancel out the alkalinity of the playa. It's not the alkaline - it's the abrasive and the other elements. That's why the vinegar hurt!!!
