I can't stop eating!
Anyone else find themselves gorging on food since coming home? I can only imagine I'm trying to fill the emotional gap that formed as I left my BRC home and people I met and loved....it's crazy, though, to see how much I'm eating!
I miss it so much. I long to be in a state that's more Burner-friendly, but I'm trying to help make a difference here in the midwest.
What a Burn it was.

Yes, Pixie. As much as I felt I wolfed down on the playa, I still had three breakfasts yesterday! We have to watch it though, lots of the weight I lost there was likely just water weight from dehydration and physical exersion. Keep drinking lots of water even now to get yourself back on track. I could get used to being tan and thin, but I know myself better than that. I don't find alchohol desirable at all right now, but I was guzzling beer before the playa. Summer's over, yes?pixiecup wrote:Anyone else find themselves gorging on food since coming home? Yeah, I noticed that too. There were days out there where we didn't eat but once a day because we were so busy an forgot. Then when we did get someone cooking for us regularly, it was about twice a day (still, plenty of food). But now that I'm back I *have* been eating like a pig. I'm sure it'll go back to normal soon.

[color=darkblue]Hi Pixie-
Yes, I'm in the same boat, and thanks for your posting 'cause it makes me feel not quite so lonely. I came home to Utah with my playa-friend (still just a friend, dammit), cleaned up the mess, put him on the plane, and now I'm facing an empty house-- empty save for the remainders of the pre-burn chaos and the post-burn dust-- and yes, missing both the playa-friend and all of the other friends I worked with and made on the Playa. My experience in Utah this year was one of incredible Renaissance-- many of the folks who put the Utah Burn (SynOrgy) together came together in the "Beyond the Zion Curtain" village. An unofficial "squatters village" of about 200 people who lived, created, laughed and loved with an intensity that is now demanding that people pull back and regain their sense of themselves. So it's very quiet in Zion land. Too quiet. I guess food is all there is right now to fill that space. I really should go for a hike tonight... Thanks for your post, maybe now it will be a little easier for me to get out the door and remember those OTHER things I am passionate about in this world!

Thanks for the feedback...I'm glad I'm not alone.
I definitely feel a sense of trying to fill some emotional holes left by leaving Burning Man this year. Thankfully, I'm on the underweight side of things, so I'm actually fine with upping my caloric intake. And I'm craving mostly beans and fish and chocolate, rather than terribly crappy stuff.
I miss it so much.
I miss him so much.
I'm having a harder time acclimating this year. I wish I lived somewhere more Burner-friendly...I think it's time for me to do my part in bringing that spirit to this part of the midwest.
peanut butter and lemon curd sounds heavenly, btw.
hummus and TownHouse Bistro cornbread crackers have been a main fare of mine.

Mad Maxine, I thought your post was eloquent.
I spent some time in SLC with a couple of friends that weren't straight. They felt suffocated. LDS can be pretty self-righteous with anything that they don't approve of.
At BRC, I was camped next to a first time ranger, He said that he really liked helping people. He was catholic. He was also a commander in the SLC sheriffs dept. He had 300 deputies working for him. Go figure!!
Maybe there's hope for SLC to loosen up.

I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.
Hi Dan-
thanks for the compliment on my writing. one of the things that Burning man has done for me in such a big way is to open me up to what I experience-- the rest just flows.
Yes, SLC can be a somewhat stifling place, but the big "open" secret that is getting out (and I'm trying to out it as much as possible) is that the Utah burner community seems to coalesce around openness and acceptance, and indeed seems to be an antidote to the closed-ness that undeniably exists here. I won't go whanging other burner communities, but I know that we definitely don't have much of a "too cool for you" attitude, even among our "coolest" burners. As we get bigger and do more and more, I hope that won't change too much.
As for your experience in meeting a SLC county sherriff, I'm so continually amazed what burners from all corners of the globe actually do for a living that I've kind of made it a "project" to ask people about their "real lives." There is hope for more than Utah.
flame on!

Oh, for sure. I'm just starting to get evened out now. I spend the first week with no appetite, only eating because otherwise I'd get weak, and then get slammed a few days before the end of the week with a voracious hunger. I don't know if it's psychological, or the environmental change, but it takes readjustment.
No worries, eh? This too shall pass.

I've been preferencially eating good foods, and even got inspired to cook a chinese curry dish today. I've been going after fruits and vegetables, and craving protein. It's just that I'm physically depleted, so I took a multi-vitamin also. I've been pounding water, drank 1.5 gallons last night.
I got a bad cramp during a rather intimate moment. I'm like in pain, and laughing, and he blithely says: It's dehydration.
Sweet.
So I ate a banana and drank gatorade.

I'll be in my blanket fort until further notice.
