I do know that it wasn't La Contessa, that vessel having crashed outside the event site to much schadenfreude among the rangers...

If I have my way, La Contessa will become a transport for the staff working the gate. (provided it can navigate the flat desert without running aground... again.)

Any respect I may have had for its design and construction has been lost by its lackluster safety record and piss-poor behavior.

It's pretty, and it's stately... and it's a good thing it doesn't transport nitroglycerine in her hold!

Not every ship can consistantly run aground on dry land!! I think it's part of her mystique!! >>grins<<

What is that saying? If it's not difficult, expensive, or time consuming it's not a good playa project? La Contessa meets all those criteria. But most importantly she's beautiful to look at. I hope someone out there with the time and patience to fix her will do so and everyone will get the pleasure of seeing her safely operated in BRC again.

Again? There was a first??

>>giggles<<

Sorry, I couldn't resist that.

It *can* be done, but it will take not only a lot of work on the physical "plant" of the vehicle (probably with better controls and probably a larger and better trained crew) but also a lot of work to convince the llc that it's ever gonna be safe enough to run during the event. THAT. my dears, will be the hardest part.

How many ships are there already? IOW, isn't it time to employ some creativity and let ships sink?

But if they sank the playa subs would hit them! >>grins<<

SB, there's always going to be a place for ships in the desert. The concept has plenty of life left in it yet.

I know, but the same thing is always said about sound camps and bar cars. Not exactly out of the box thinking.

I liked the sub car out there this year because of its 'ping' you could hear far before you could see it. Event though thats been done before, I was thinking of arming it with something to take those ships out.

OK. Its pretty to look at. Its become a celebrity in its own right.

But its a big, hard to drive beast that always seems to get into trouble. Perhaps the city is too big for it to be driven safely.

Maybe what is needed is a second ship to capture and destroy it. A massive naval battle out on the dry sea of Lahontan. Now THAT would be worth the price of admission!

We blasted her with a broadside in '03 as she was being finished. No doubt the root cause of all of these misfortunes...

It needs a replacement and it needs to go out in epic fashion.

A heavy broadside shot, followed by a vegas-like fireball and "sinking"

arr...now me have a mission for 06. if i only had a brain, i mean a house or some sort of space anywhere on this planet. fuck me and my stupid ass apartment. it's gonna be hard to build a 20th century (in the functional sense) ship vehicle on my roof, and get it down to the street. i'm talking lightning cannons, retractable life preservers to pick up passer-byes, and a fully functional sound system...shit. well at least i have a year...
