BLM says no impact from Burning Man in 14 years

An interview with Jamie Thompson, the pubic affairs officer for the Bureau of Land Management.

We have identified no long-term impacts, no cumulative impacts that are of any significance to the playa, as a result of Burning Man, in the 14 years now that the event has been permitted on public land.

No. Idee fixe to trot out my bad french. Plus he's convinced that the BLM is corrupted by the bucket loads of cash that Larry sneaks to them via the JotS trucks. Or maybe by jack rabbit courier.

Our camp placed plastic drip pans under every single vehicle in the camp. We didn't collect a single drop of oil or other fluid that I know of but even so, if someone was leaking, we would have caught it. It is pretty easy to tell if you are going to drip on the playa. If there is spot on your driveway where you park your car, chances are good there's going to be a spot on the playa too. We used large plastic trays about 3 in deep under each car just in case.

Good for you, Geekster. Drip pans are definitely the way to go if you know your vehicle leaks.

As for Rex, I've given up. He will forever feel that the system is corrupt and Burning Man is getting preferential treatment, but if you saw the number of conditions that the BORG must meet in order to comply with the permit, you'd think otherwise.

EVERYONE considers Rex to be an annoying asshat. Even the locals dont like him.
