In 2005, the spawn of The Man was MiniMan:

...and in 2006 MiniMan begat:

So that was YOU at the M&G! VERY cool costume idea, it looked great! And ManTis? Why not? Would be certain to send little kids screaming into the night (not that you would be such a meanie and think that was funny... ).

MiniMan is certainly a fabulous creation. and much admired and appreciated by all who saw him

Are you converting him to the ManTis or is this in ADDITION to MiniMan? How cool would that be to have BOTH?

Le Chat,

If you're interested in puppetry, PM me because I'm working on an idea for next year and I'd love for you to join me.

Thanks, you guys. I hate all puppets, mimes, clowns, and offers of extended warranty. What have I become?

Squidly: Most certainly the creation of a new entity. It is another partnership between myself and Kernul Killbuck, this time with help and advice from others as we are entering new territory with animatronics and pyro. Would love to have them both next year for a little "Godzilla vs. Rodan" action.

Magikal: Yes, my head was at MiniMan's crotch level and you looked very funny talking to me from the side. Good on ya, luv. Regarding children, we ran into a father and his 10 year old boy on the Esplinade and the poor lad had clearly wet his pants. I don't know if MiniMan was the cause or he just didn't make it to the JOS. MiniMan stopped to give him a hug and he seemed to forget all about it.

Sputnik- Yes: Zorak is a surly bastard and I like him even better on The Brak Show. Anybody gonna do a Meat Wad this year?

Have you considered the idea that you probably really love all that stuff and that's what energizes your hatred thereof? Be glad they can't stick "Psyche" on you again as a theme for a few years.

Big bug show opens at the Kalamazoo Nature Center tomorrow....They offer to "take your picture with our giant mantis". I will dispatch operatives to investigate.

Since neither creature is even in its final design phase, I see no reason NOT to make on-playa plans already....I propose "MOOP Beetle versus ManTis 2006", on the playa adjacent to Thunderdome......

Oh, that's a tasty challenge, Robotland. Game on! If I lose, will your beetle scoop the moop?

Be sure and get lots of different angle shots on the giant mantis. Elvis Costello said "Every musician (artist) is a magpie and a thief".

Wise words, from a man who even "borrowed" his own name! I'll go for Full Mantis Coverage, my friend- The better to learn its weak spots and exploit them! Mu-hu-ahhahHA!

Hmmm... there *were* a lot of nuclear tests performed out there... somewhere. Not to mention the toxic wastes of various government "projects" about the same time. Combined with the experimentations of the scientists of Apokiliptika, the reverbations of the neighboring camps, and the residue from the falling ash, generated by the questionable fuel source from the jellyfish-ring smoke generator... And let's not forget that Area 51 was NOT the only Nevada secret facility where they... well... never mind about that!

Or maybe she saw Mini from her hideaway in the hills and thought... Hmmm... time for a little nookie followed by a midnight snack...

We may be wrong... but one never knows, do they?

I can neither confirm nor deny any such insect, nor the incidences that may have taken place to create such a horrendous man-eater to be let loose upon the unsuspecting citizenry of Black Rock City. Deliberately or otherwise...

Can we assume, for a moment, that such an accident occurred at an underground detonation of a nuclear device, near a chemical waste dump, over a classified storage bunker of classified classifiables. And living therein was a widowed mantis and her 1400 babies. (They're always widows... wonder why? >>evil grins<<). And the nest was destroyed, killing all inhabitants... save for 1.

Fast forward from 1954 to the present. The thump thump of the rave camps, every so increasing in BRC, calls to this sad, dejected, and voracioulsy hungry insect of questionable genetics through subsonic vibrations set up in the desert floor. And so, seeking food, and perhaps a mate, she travels hundreds of miles through the minng tunnels of western Nevada...

Or not.

Interesting speculation on the Man-tis’s origin , but I think the answer to where she came from is much closer to Black Rock City it’s self,... As the broken glowsticks, drug laced urine, and body paint seeps into the playa over the past years a toxic brew was formed. That combined with the changes in the electromagnetic field of the area do to all the rebar driven into the playa in a nearly circular shape focused the earths own energy to cause the mutations.

Alas, I ended up devoting my Saturday afternoon to installing new padlocks and doing some minor repairs after a break-in at our old house- I plan to visit Bugland tomorrow, my day off, after getting the cast off my hand(!). I'm hoping to race home to the studio after seeing the Big Bugs, and use my newly-freed hand to create Sublime Giant Bug Art.
Gotcha a little eensy-weensy mantis from the nature store downtown, which I'll include with my report. GIVE, already- Where'd the green beauties come from?
