Sad and Angry Burning Man Photos/Stories

Post by RagnaRoss » Tue Sep 27, 2005 1:20 am

I'm working on a collage project and i would be very glad to have at least one negtive image from BM as a part of it. Of course, nobody usually wants to focus on anything truly negative to do with BM but such images would be so unique i think Burners would find them extremely provokative. I'm also open to stories but i could definately USE at least one photo. What i really want is something that shows an ugly side of something that so many (myself included) regard as sacred and supremely beautiful.
Here we go into the sea of meaninglessness in the persuit of truth.

There are plenty of negative aspects to Burning Man, but to ask someone for a picture of one seems rather odd. Sacred does not necessarily mean good or easy and in fact often includes or involves some kind of tarrying with the negative. In fact, some would say that tarrying with the negative is the sine qua non of the spirit, but they would not be a make happy new ager then. And there would be no photo that would capture that.

Why not one of "Dicky," he's managed to spend two consecutive years in a "box." Given all the good experiences that he excluded himself from, I'd say that might qualify one for, "Sad and Angry."

Bah, you're just jealous because you didnt think of the idea first.

Not in the slightest. I just thought it was odd that for someone who was not content about his exclusion the previous year would want to again re-experience the same, or an analagous form of that exclusion just the same. Putting that ark of his on wheels would have made for a more interesting exhibit and metaphor, albeit perhaps making things hell for his logistics team.

Shoulda taken a pic of that porta-potty out at 2:00. That was so negative it was almost positive...kinda jolie-laide, pardon my french.

Or maybe that ol' e-playa'd pic of the dude with his hands over his head while the tent flies away in the wind...damn, I can stare at that thing for minutes on end. Wait, that's bordering on positive again.

I was gonna add something new-agey about all negative experiences really being positive in the end, and the crucible that we're in at Burning Man, how it brings out all kinds of inner toxins that often need to be cried out of our systems, to our benefit. Then I thought of all the shitty stories I've read right here in this forum, and reconsidered.

My only sad story about Burningman 2005 is that I did not go. I was, however, there in spirit. In fact I am still there!!
BOOBIES!!!
