I think I get your point. Kind of like the erowid convention of framing your experience reports as a "dream"?

perhaps it is a little recherche of me, but I do have a fondness for empirical fact.

As do I, but alt12 has a stated aversion to relating the facts in this case, and yet I am curious as to the specifics.

Anyway, I suspect the story is more prosaic than noteworthy, and that the protagonist did exactly the wrong thing when approached by the antagonist.

The fact is that someone traded or sold something to someone they didn't know. Don't bitch to BORG or the police if you are clearly in violation of the law; it just complicates things for everyone else and wastes everyone's time.

p.s. The police are not (generally) burners. Don't expect them to behave like burners.

Respectfully, I must take exception to this statement. Please do complain or contest your tickets if your basic rights have been violated, or if you think they have. We can help educate the org and the leos and also help define what courtesy and respect mean in brc and what delineates a private space in brc.

It is my contention that we are woefully over policed, by people with probable cause trigger fingers, who are nearly hallucinating that every long round object is a bong. (that's not a bong in my pants, i'm just very happy, sir)

There will be those who will truly waste our time by bitching about the bitching, afraid to raise their voices for fear of bumming their own high, and will complain about your complaint, but please ignore them and speak your mind.

Good advice ubu, but I think that if the OP's friend pulled a Sched I substance out of their own pocket it is game over. That is a far cry from LEOs tearing your camp apart because they smelled doob on the wind or saw multiple lighter strikes coming from inside your tent.

its funny, one can almost predict the nastyness, bitchiness and general asshole-ness (if you will) of people's responses by the number of posts the person has on eplaya...and they appear to be directly proportional.

I'm just waiting for someone with like 12,000 eplaya posts to their credit to say "go fuck yourself you fucking hippy cocksucker."

I guess I should be thankful that I have yet to encounter many of you folks at burningman, because that would surely be a bummer. Thanks for the kind words and thoughtful insights as to this matter.

Alt12, don't let people with almost terminal cases of Internet Anonymity disease scare you off. This can be a rough board at times but it does have a lot of good people if you spend some time here.

This is rough treatment?

Heaven forbid people should express different opinions. Why, that kind of talk might lead to dialogue!

alt12, is there any chance you will relate some fictional details about a made-up friend of yours who got busted by an undercover space-cop while chilling in a gravity dome orbiting planet BM05?

Don, did you read exactly what I wrote? I said this board can be rough at times. It didn't necessarily refer to any activities in this thread...he has posted in other threads here.

Your subconscious slips are getting the best of you lately both here and on your home board based on what I've observed.

Stop personalizing things, stop misusing words like 'subconcious,' and stop dropping hints that you are a lurker on 3playa. We know, we get it, and we don't really care what little peccadilloes you scurry off with, rat-like, to your blogholes when they fall on the ground.

The best thing about smug self-satisfaction is that you needn't share it, so stop.

alt12 reacted strongly in this thread, presumably to DallasPlaya whose opinion was most strongly expressed, this is what I wrote about. I have no plans to cross-correlate his words from this thread with all other experiences he might be having elsewhere on this board.

Stop yourself Don. You have no authority here nor any over me. The quicker you realize that the better off you'll be. I'm glad my blog has your attention, when you have a track record of engaging in the politics of character assassination the smell of a victim's success is enough to send one into a frenzy. Your posts put the exclamation mark on the evidence of that this time.

As for your current posts it looks like you're trying to bait someone into telling a story so you can write up a rip snorting post to engage in...ahh yes, the politics of character assassination. People make mistakes and you among others take sport in other's misery. It's nice to be able to call you out in it...obviously judging by your reaction that spoils your intent and so you lash out like a 3 year old, stop, stop! Don, maybe you should go back to the 3playa and work on running that board, not this one. We have good moderators and admins here. Don't forget you're not one of them. I'm not either but I've been here for quite some time while others bolted for other boards. This is one of my online homes...and IMHO I'm doing nothing more than helping to clean up the trash.

I am asking for details from alt12 so that I can understand the particulars of what he is talking about. The sci-fi angle is designed to give him the safety he feels he needs with respect to his friend's case.

The rest of that vomit needs no reply.

Based on numerous anectodal accounts here and elsewhere, I can take a fair guess at what went down (there was a definate pattern this year). Person, usually young female in "burner-garb", approaches and asks for drugs. When given negative response, they then offer to "trade" something (typically acid) for some pot. They then depart, everyone apparently happy. The bust goes down after the person is safely gone.

Since a trade was made and at least one drug changed hands, this counts as distribution, not mere possession (at least to my meager and incomplete understanding of the law it does).

Just say no when approached by strangers for drugs. (Or your friends for that matter!).

I suspect much the same, but it would be nice to know specifics as I am sure some of the activity out there does not fit the norm.

Monday, 5th Sept, 2005

A member of our "sister" camp, who we shall call A, came to find ME when approached by a random young costumed male burner, X, who offered to do a drug trade. Another member of that camp, B, who had witnessed the conversation, suspiciously followed the trail of X...which had come from the neighbour camp. When the neighbours described X as 'strange' (this word sort of takes on a new meaning on the playa...) and that X had asked for a drug trade, B's suspicion grew. B rushed to find A, and did so in time to stop A from reaching me. I happened to be out at the time, singing songs to myself (and others) on the potty, but i was headed to A&B's camp after my break anyway. When I arrived, the scene was: A&B&Others riding off after X yelling "This guy is a narc, do not trust him!" Apparently X decided to hastily depart when some other random guy C (now a good friend of ours!!) came over to explain that on the previous day, X had proposed a drug exchange at their camp and that consequently one of their members had been arrested (after being taken to the ground and 'dogpiled' by 4 officers). Of course an opportunity like this does not arise very often so I rode off to catch-up with the others in the *very* satisfying act chastizing of our now very scared and humiliated agent Mr. X.

<H O W L I N G!!!!>

FWIW, I'd seriously take Ray's advice. The issue comes up EVERY year in regards to the swinging dick LEOs - usually those showing up on-playa for the 1st time.

Four or five years ago back when there WAS a Town Hall meeting to take these concerns to, the issue came up about cops continually skulking around closed tents waiting for the owners to come out so they could get a peak inside. I believe there were enough complaints by folks to indicate that there was indeed a pattern of questionable behavior by a few of these rogue asswipes to put pressure on the BLM to rein in (and re-assign) the perps during the next year's event. As I remember it there was a small shakeup in the heirarchy the next year and the complaints re. such practices was down quite a bit.

I was referring to the fact that the officer can have the drugs, use them himself, offer them to you, watch you use them and then bust your ass.

I had been under the mistaken impression that providing the opportunity to break the law, i.e. offering drugs, was an entrapment. As it turns out, it is only coercion or persuasion to break the law absent intent by the person charged that constitutes entrapment.

If you provide your own opportunity, i.e. are holding drugs you haul out -even in response to same, you are well and truly fucked. You have no grounds for an entrapment defense.

I knew what you meant. I just thought I'd capitalize on good imagery.

...furthermore...

You bet your ass you're fucked if you bring your own drugs. I think it takes balls to say "All I was doing was getting high and they busted me. That's fucked." As far as I know, it's uh...against the law to get high, even when police aren't there. When you know for certain, with no doubt that there are cops around, rubbing their greasy little mits together and just waiting to bust someone, maybe it's best to exercise a greater degree of caution.

I understand, of course, the "used to be" argument. We used to be able to do whatever we wanted out there. Well, no more. Cope, adjust, or don't go. But you can't bitch. That's like getting drunk and walking in front of a car and being hit by the car and then bitching at the driver...What asshole do I know that did that? And why do my shins hurt so badly?

Seriously, though; if you get busted for drugs, it's because you fucked up, plain and simple. I did drugs for a long time and I didn't just have little pepsi-cola habits, either. I was fucked up good. I never got busted for anything though, and it's because I kept the lid screwed on tight.

It's all about personal responsibility. Complain. Complain all you want about NARC's, undercovers, LEO's...you may as well bitch about the sun coming up, though, or about your feet being so far below your head.

And dude...if you're going to chase NARC's, make sure NOBODY HAS ANYTHING. Cops live for revenge.

Well, c'mon man. Fill in the blanks.

and...someone asked if I had a joint. I said "no," because I don't do drugs. Then I was cuffed and he rammed a kilo of coke in my ass and arrested me.

Cashing in, Don. Like I said, I thought the imagery was hilarious.

Actually, considering the chair that I sit in while I type (wouldn't it be nice to have a lazy boy, though...), I might be able to do it after a little yoga. I'm not sure what you're going to do with my pants, though. After the thing with the cops in Verboten, I think I'd prefer you just stay away from my pants. Nothing personal.

from Fat Sam-"You would think that's the case, but I was in Club Verboten on Saturday and someone asked if I had a joint..."

Just picked up on this thread and found above interesting.Saturday night is a couples sex thing at our place. No males allowed in unless with a female. The imagination tingles when thinking how this particular narc operation could be assinged and the subsequent court testimony that would follow.
