Some religious weirdo posted......

Post by RegRad » Wed Oct 05, 2005 4:33 pm

Some religious weirdo posted a link to a web site sometime right before BM 2005. It was hilarious because it had a map of Washington DC with an overlay of a pentagon showing how EVIL Wash, DC is I guess. And the site was primalary anti-burningman..... I was looking for it in the archives but I can't find it..... Can anyone help :?:

Is this site you're talking about?

Did you know that Burning Man is really nothing more than a birthday party for Satan? Next year I'm baking him a cake!

Everytime I see crap like this, I feel compelled to point out that not all Christians are boners. I'm a Christian and a fairly deep thinker and one who contemplates life, beliefs...I think I'm pretty discriminating.

Well...

Maybe you think I'm a boner. BUT! I stand by my statement. Not all Christians are boners. It bums me out that there are so many jackasses running around giving the rest of us a bad rap.

NOW for some really wierd shit (since most of that Xtian* hype is wierdo-based anyway)...

The beer of the playa is - Pabst Blue RIbbon.

Shortened PBR

Switching to numerology (eiter holy xtian or satanic, depending on which nutcase you listen to), we;ll assign the numbers as they fall - P-16, B-2, R-18... With me so far? Sorry...

If you take those mumbers and add up the digits (1+6+2+1+8) you get... 18.

Still there? REALLY sorry.

Now, there are 3 letters. Divide that sum total by 3 to get the average, and you get...

6

Now, realizing the total of the digits is 18, you need three 6's to get 18, right? 6+6+6=18. 18=18.

So... (betcha saw this coming)... (For which I am really, really sorry...)

BPR = 666
And if you had any doubt...

Which Kamp was giving out PBR? at 3:00 and Amnesia? (Gaia's left elbow, makes us not only Apokiliptikans but Elbonians - oh no, Doug Adams is also one of... (>>SHUDDER<<)... ~-*>T H E M <*-~

________________

*BTW... if they were "Christians" instead of Xtians, they would follow the lead of Christ, not the rule of X. Ergo,,, Xtians.

Kinda like Xing out the whole principles of the religion, dontcha know... and they call *us* evil satan worshippers...

bb

(Edited to correct bad spelling - must be the PBR...)

"They" is a hypostitazation. Kierkegaard was kind enough to create a distinction between Christendom and Christians.

Seriously, it's a legitimate phenomenon. Thinking Christians are outnumbered by non-thinking Christians. Please don't let that harsh you on Christianity, though, or on those of us who have a greater understanding of things (or who are currently working on a greater understanding of things).

Gawd, FS, I like you!

My favorite bumber sticker...

"Would Jesus be a Burner?"

I think he prolly would. After all, name another 35K size town where there is so much love and respect amongst those there, even those who disagree on a lot. Sure, they may not really get along, but in a pinch... a burner seems pretty willing and able to help out - even non-burners.

There is a difference between Christians who follow the teachings of their religion and the blasphemers who claim to be but are not even close. No one is perfect, but there is a line there... Ergo my Xtian thing. They claim to be Christians, but they don't follow the Christ. Ergo... Xtians.

If they really followed the religion they claim, they would be ashamed to do the Anti-Christian thinngs they do. (Usually in the name of the Lord - I think that's blasphemy, no??) Isn't there an "Anti-cChrist" provision, and something about the legions that followed those precepts (Ergo Ant-Christians)? False propheting and all that stuff...

(BTW, I have been a follower of "old-style" theological Christianity - (NOT Xtianity) - along with other similar core beliefs - since I can rmember ;~) )

Nooooo.... another lost soul! Well... waitaminnit...

Hmmm... Which would *you* rather do for communion? Fermented concord grape juice or PBR?

Gives me an idea for a gig for next year. A semi-official, non offensive, religious kinda thing. Call it a Mass. Yeah...

"Fruit of the grain, brewed of human hands, it will become for us our spiritual spirit..." >>grins<<

Might just do it. Shock the hell out of non-believers... >>giggles<< Can't be any worse than the one we used to do at Renfaire...

Oh. man, the whole "Repent, Motherfucker!" thing is starting to come together. PBR and bacon communion. A picture of some guy from Bakersfield named Jesus, maybe a nun with a naughty habit ... Our Lady Of Paranoia ... Our Lady of Perpetual Terror ... something, I will get it figured out eventually. Need some saints. Saint Nipples? Maybe some idols of cows ... it just doesn't stop.

Geekster, I gotta run with this...

Idol cows? Dairy nightmare! >>grins<<

I worked with a cook named Jesus once. Nice guy, got the orders right. (Holy orders??!!) I also knew priests with naughty habits, but I heard nun of that until much later. Need a Archdiocese of Black Rock City. Then you could have many churches - Our Lady of Perpetual Duststorms could be one. Lessee... St. Nipples... Yeah, I like that. St Nipples cathedral. We'd have to have him cannonized. And he *was* in the temple burn this year. (Gawd, I miss Nipples!!!) Anyone got a spare cannon??

I still like the Playa Wafers... Light, and slightly crusty. Unleavened (because there's no way to leav playa dust, is there, short of 40 MPH winds??) And PBR. (Hey, we said it best - PBR for the Masses... maybe we were on to something.)

We could hold Playa Anonymous meetings in the... rectory. Convert the non-believers into burners. Lessee... what about all the Virgins? Yiiii!!! It'd give the term "High Mass" totally new meaning... I like it.

But... please... no Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence...

For the virgins we would need some kind of catechism and confirmation. And we are going to need other prayers and rituals ... Our Father, who art in Gerlach, hollow be thy head ...

Of course there is evil all around you, and good too. In fact, one can't exist without the other. I have a big problem with religious thuggary. Take for example a country where you might have a Department of Vice and Virtue that would go around enforcing rules of conduct and dress and possibly herd people to pray when it is time to do so. In a society like that the people aren't any more pious than in a society lacking that government department. While outside appearances might be according to the religious law, people are not abiding by it because they fear God, they are abiding by it because they fear man. The man with the rubber hose that wacks them when they stray. The religious thugs. Same goes for people in this country that would attempt to legislate morality. It doesn't make the society any more moral to outlaw prostitution, for example. It doesn't eliminate prostitution. It just turns prostitutes into criminals rather than tax paying providers of a service as they are in many other countries. Make them criminals and they are afraid to call the police if they have been robbed or abused. You haven't improved the society one teensy bit. Just one example but a perfect example of how throught their attempts to legislate morality, they can actually make the society worse.

I have no doubt that Jesus would go to the Burn. I also think that in BRC, many applied Christian tenets can be found. More and more Christians are starting to understand that, too...

Unfortunately, even the very idea of what we (Christians) should and should not do is screwed up. I've been getting some direct translations of the Latin Vulgate of the OT/NT from a Latin fluent professor of mine and the difference between KJV/NIV versions of the Bible that I'm familiar with are significant and dramatic. I'm really seriously thinking of pursuing Latin so that I can tackle it on my own.

Also, yeah, I completely agree that true Christ Followers should be ashamed to do the non-Christian things they do. I am and I screw up plenty. But I also believe I'm forgiven for my mistakes, past and future. It's difficult, philosophically. I don't feel it's ok for me to go around being what I perceive as bad, but I believe that if I do, I'll be forgiven because I'm imperfect and I acknowledge that...I don't know. That's my own deal to work out and just a rant, I suppose. As far as attempting to force other people to accept the beliefs that I have accepted, I'm completely opposed. As far as I can tell from the Bible, my job as a Christian is to share with people about my faith, not argue (though friendly debate is another matter as long as it's entered into willingly by both sides). What could be more counter-productive than badgering someone? If someone is resistant, that's fine. My job is done when I've given my what and why and if you don't care to hear that, that's fine, too.

And RegRad, no offense was taken. I just want to defend something that I think too many have gotten the wrong idea about. The 'bad apple' axiom is totally applicable, only it's not the barrel that gets spoiled in the case. It's everybody's opinion of the barrel. Someone gets a bad bite out of one of the apples and then tells everyone else that the whole barrel is turned...

Fat Sam, thanks for stating your beliefs, I too was born into a Christian family and the values taught through Christians are very good ones....I live my life by these values although I stopped attending church long ago. I think of it more along the lines of Karma now then a Rath of God. People should just be nice to one another because that is the right thing to do, not because they should fear the Rath of God or something like that. Many Christians are good people and they share in these good values, but I have also seen the "Bad Apples" who, as you stated, will try to push their beliefs on others. I don't like that and I have been exposed to people like that in the past and they hold no water with me.

And on a lighter note, I think what we are all truly wondering.....
