If a state were to lower their age to 18, I would be tempted to move there. Sort of vote with my feet. As the article that Chai linked to, Germany has a 16 yo age for beer/wine. Kids drink the stuff at meals practically from the time they are old enough to hold a glass. my grandfather and my father would give me a sip from their beer on a hot day from the time I was maybe 5. And I also agree with the article that if you take the mystery and taboo out of it, it ceases to become a big deal. It is kind of like America's taboo about seeing female breasts. It results in the seeing of breasts being a big deal. Same with alcohol.

But there are other issues that would prevent being so open here. In Europe you have a much better public transportation system. If you get drunk, you can take the street car, train, or bus probably right to your own street or darn close to it. In Germany, if you are caught drunk driving it is automatic revocation of your drivers license and you must re-do your driving school to get it back (very expensive). A second offense is prison and lifetime loss of your license. If you are found involved in an injury accident while under the influence, it is also automatic lifetime revocation of your driver's license. Or that was the case 20 years ago or so.

PBR??? You're a cheap date, I was going to kick down for a Hoegarden or a Chimay, but PBR it is. Are you going to be at Decom in SF? Look for me in the Orange Furry leggings and Vest and I'll hook you up.

You can bring firearms from U.S. into canada if you want to compete. you just have to apply for a temporary license from the department of justice firearms center. its a lot easier to get non-restricted weapons in than restricted (handguns). also for handguns you need a transport permit and if you are going through a national park they have to be dissassembled (sp?)
