Hello and Welcome... What's your name? Tell me about You...
greetings..
I'm a single male human from Eugene, Oregon.
I'm a musician/sound engineer in the default world..and have never been to a burn, but plan on going in 2006. This forum has been most helpful in realizing what is needed (and not needed) at this event.
thanks to all involved for making this forum!

My name is contra (real name is Heather; contra is my given playa name) - 2005 was my virigin year at Burning Man. I don't know why we didn't go sooner. My husband and I made BM our honeymoon...we got married this past June. We live in chicago with our beloved pit bulls and cats. I am 27 and a graphic designer - I work from home - yay! I'm an ex-party kid (a.k.a. raver), as is my husband, whom I met at a small party six and-a-half years ago. I was into pit bull rescue for a while, but the other humans involved really turned me off to it.
I was just totally blown away by BM, but I just wish I could figure out that bigger purpose that I am meant to serve...I know I can certainly find that somewhere here.
kisses :D

I AM NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE!
2005 was my first burn. I was part of camp of veterans (7th burn for one of us) mostly from the SF Bay area. I loved the experience and can't wait till next year. I have grandiose plans for art cars and theme camps but, will be lucky just to get my butt accross the country with enough supplies to get by on. My wife and I went this year and our friends from SF packed in almost everything we needed in their trailer. We are going to bring our son (9) next year and I was thinking of driving so we could pack all our own gear this time. If there is anyone out there who in the South East area and wants to start a caravan let me know.

puts you leagues ahead of most souls.
You may not have to search great distances...
...just be sure to search wherever YOU are.
Your husband and all you touch are very lucky
to have a such kind gift as yours. I`m sure you will find
your perfect niche. Enjoy the journey!

Another newbie stumbles onto Burning Man...
I'm Erin. I have spent too long today (as I am at work) looking over the Burning Man site, which I found by a serendipitous accident. WOW. I can't wait to go to Burning Man next year. I am just getting thru the First0Timer's guide and the Required Reading, but would appreciate any tips anyone wants to share about getting there, where to camp, etc. I don't think I quite understand it all right now, but I am sure I will understand as much as I need to by next August.
I love the arts, esp. musical theatre. I love music and dancing, but am the world's least natural dancer. Ah well.
Back to work for now...
Burn on, all you burning people. I wish I had found you all sooner!

Greetings Beautiful Brothers and Sisters ~
Thank You for sharing and co-creating one of my favorite places on the planet!! Playa dust and gratitude fill my heart, leaving me with infinite smiles : ))))) The refreshing breath of community and acceptance given to me at BRC is a gift like no other. Few times in my life have tears graced my eyes for joy ~
oh yes, im suppose to be introducing myself not reminiscing, my name is Emily but on the playa dubbed myself Heart. Growing up in tahoe I have long been surrounded by burners and count it as one of my blessings, though until 2005 I have been unable to consider myself one of you, which I do now, as an honor, Thank You!

Aloha all you wonderful people!
I currently live in Kauai, Hawaii and have been to the last four Burns with my amazing friends from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. (My former home.)
Who would have thought that the Man could get better and better? I was a bit nervous last year by the number of people (and the few gapers I encountered), but this year blew my pants off-literally!! I encountered so many beautiful and amazing people that I still can't get this fucking grin off my face! :D
Thank you Opulent Temple with Dj Lorin (and many other nights), Adam Freeland @ El Circo on Friday(unreal!!), The Fucking Deep End for all those amazing days dancing with the most incredible music and cocktails-wow!
The beautiful people I met from Santa Barbara and San Francisco. Thank you. And to all the ones I met and had no idea where you were from. All my encounters were great!
Thank you Lounge (close to Nexus) for your killer bloody marys and conversation. Where is the English guy with the sword? I want to find you!!
Thank you everyone!!! I can't wait until next year! By the way, if anyone hears of any decompression parties here in Kauai, please let me know. Otherwise I will keep having my random dance parties down old dirt roads.
Aloha,
Brandy.........................................
It is hard to go to Burning Man trying to compare each year. They are all different, with different lessons. Even if I think one year may not be as great as the last, it is still the Best Week of my year!

So I popped my BM cherry this past August....it's about time. As I said when I got there, it may have been my first time to physically be there, I got there otherwise a long time ago.
I was so happy to meet other people like me, who understand, who live by kharma and who embrace individuality.
It's hard coming back to bland, conformist American culture. Where are you all? I want to find people near me (MA) who dance to my beat.

Hello,im hoping to go to burning man 2006, and know very little about how to get tickets and get there.
I live in the U.K and would fly into Reno, but no very little about getting to burning man after that, other than a long walk.

ladoll42 - you're in MA - as in Massachusetts? Well then come on down and party with us! check out www.bostonburners.org and join the mailing list - there's tons of stuff going on here!
Oh whoops- I am 28, and living in Rhode Island - yes, a different state but very close to Massachusetts! I get to paint for a living and have made the last week in august a mandatory vacation time. It is hard to readjust into the default world - but the more playa spirit you creat in your life, the easier it gets! I hate to leave the playa, but I do love being reinspired every year to go out and make good things happen in the world! Just think of all the people who will never have any kind of experience that resembles the kind of open attitudes we bring to Burning Man! It's up to us to share a little bit of that...and make the world a better place~

Hey Heavenanhell,
The theme does not get announced until after the New Year, but don't worry because the theme is completely irrelevant since everyone still thinks the theme is "Floating World".
Choose your own theme and if you tell us what is, I promise that everyone on here will adhere to it.
Thanks and welcome!

You want to get in touch with Hageymon--the man who runs the International Burners Hostel and the rideshare project. If you don't want to rent a car (or can't) you will be able to find a ride closer to the event when the rideshare board goes active or by hooking up with someone in Reno when you get there. In the mean time read this year's survival guide and check out links you find here and on the main site. Look for the U.K regional and see if you can meet some burners face to face.hugomango wrote:Hello,im hoping to go to burning man 2006, and know very little about how to get tickets and get there.

Chicago To Burning Man 2006?
Hi,
My name is Derek, and I am a 42 year old man in Chicago, IL. I've never been to Burning Man before, but recently spoke about it to an acquaintance who just got back, and now I'm very interested in going next year, if it is feasible. The only way I could make this happen is if I hook up with a group of other pilgrims from my area, so we can make the trek out there together and pool our resources. Does anybody know anybody in or around Chicago who might be making plans to attend next year, and who would be willing to consider a partnership?
One problem is that I have very little camping experience, and have never spent time in the desert before. I'm intelligent and in good physical shape, so if somebody were patient enough to work with me on my survival skills, I'm sure I could do OK there; and, of course, I would pitch in with all the work. I'm not really an artistic person myself, although I love good literature, music, theatre, and anything else that can stimulate one's imagination and give one a glimpse of beauty, so I'm sure I would enjoy the creative environment at Burning Man.

You`ve come to the right place to start...welcome to Eplaya.
My initial advice:
Read and learn all you can.
Take into consideration all of the good advice that is contained in these threads.
You should be able to find other burners from Chicago here in the Regional threads.
Questions & tips thread is good too.
BurningMan is an extreme place.
You would be well advised to come both mentally and
materially prepared.
Try to ignore the flamers. It might help if you read up before asking alot of questions.

Hello...my name is Demenshea and i can hardly wait till next the next burn. I am from the Nevada desert and have followed the festival for many years but never attended. I am used to what the desert can give one, if unprepared. Next year will be my first year and I will be ready.
I am an working artist and motocycle enthusiast. I plan on doing a piece for the playa...something interactive.
cheers,

Hey my name is Matt from Australia,
I'm looking to go to the eclipse festival in turkey in march, then hopefully travel around until august and fly to the states for burning man ;), after the man i'll probably head back to aus, i think its a nice header and footer for my journey, the eclipse and burning man! I've never been to burning man, I've been dreaming about it for years, now its just about getting the dosh together ;) Mmm at the mo i'm 'studying' art and frequenting a few psychedelic parties in the bush, i'm interested in games and play at the mo, i'd love to be involved with something fun on the playa! Anyway, i'll try and post alot and hopefully makes some friends or aquaintances with whom i could experience and participate in the man with. Looks like there is a lot to prepare and learn for!
peace!

My name is Ronald Royal Edward Brust II, but you can call me Ron. I attended this years (05) burning man for the first time, and I'm now a confirmed burner.... "I'm not a virgin anymore!" I grew up in the mid west, (Chicago land) and until I moved the bay area I had never really knew anyone who attended burning man. This past year I only came for 3 days because I didn’t know what to expect. I am very sorry that I missed the whole week, but like I said I didn’t really understand.
This next year is going to be different because I have a clear understand of what it means now. It’s not just a week long event in the dessert with cool music, cool people, cool art and wicked parties. It’s about the entire year leading up to that one week. It’s about the 90% of the people who have been there before doing something so unbelievable that you can’t explain what it is for the 10% who have never been before.
I know that old burners are sour with the event growing so large that it now attracts “frat” types, but like all laws of statistics they only represent a small portion of new attractors.
I look forward to next year and I can hardly wait to show off what I’m bringing for everyone to enjoy. Stay tuned.

Greetings to all the people out there...
I am a 30 year old woman, living in London but originally from South Africa. I am an archaeologist and my hobbies include art and photography.
My first love in music is trance, although I feel like I'm growing too old for the hectic party scene. Now I'm content to relax to some jazzy house music.
The first time I heard about Burning Man, I knew that I want to go there and hopefully next year I will be there!

Just be carefull of willfull fishies popping up and asking you if leave no trace burns your archeologist's heart.
Okay, okay, you don't know me and you may not realize that despite siezing the opportunity to promote my own silly agendal, that what ever your experience is, I will do my best to honor it.
