concordance

Post by jenny » Thu Oct 13, 2005 12:31 am

I like amazon's new concordance feature which shows you the 100 most frequently used words in a book.

this is from one of the books about burning man:

above across again am another art away beauty behind black burn burned burning cannon circle city clowns come crowd dance day desert down dust end ever eyes face fall feel few find fire first flame friends get giraffe go going good hand head heat high home know large last let life light line little long look looking love man middle mind moment mountains must myself night now own part people place plastic playa red right rock santas see seen sky small something soon sound starts stop sun take tent thing think time towards two vehicle walk water wind without yourself

Ha- "giraffe".

The last 15 or so words in the string almost read like a sentence, one that I might utter while stumbling into the tent at sunrise and wondering if I'll be able to lay down without too much spinning going on in the periphery.

How many words aren't there that you would've guessed would appear? Depends on the writer, I suppose. I might add "thumpa thumpa", or at least "music", maybe "titties" for all the CT talk that's been happening. "Holy" and "shit" and "whoooo-hooooo!!!"- if I was dictating the book on the playa!
