Hi im from overseas and have always felt very attracted by the phenomenon BM.
the vibe and the happening's background is something unique.

while having been in the US before a couple of times, i never made it to BM.

I do intend to change this though :)

So.

This is what a Sticky Hello & Welcome is like.

I`ve had MUCH stickier Hello`s & Welcomes.

Let`s rev it up a notch or two, what do you say?

You know, like a tongue ride from Dragonfly J. or something....

Hey abby. Sorry to hear about your brother. Although you may not belive it or experience it directly, deaths are taken pretty hard in this community. I hope you are okay and I wish you the best.

Hello Everyone

Post by canadagirl » Sat Oct 22, 2005 10:35 am

Hello everyone out there.

I'm completely new to Burning Man. I'm actually glad that I came across it now rather than later so that I have almost a whole year to prepare myself.

I haven't read everything on site yet about preparation and such, but I'll get through it.

I'm nearly 25 from Ontario, Canada and so want to make it in 2006. One problem? So far anyone that I have talked to about this thinks that I am just some sort of weird freak and I'm a little worried about taking the trek on my own (planning to drive) and staying "alone". Hopefully someone I know will be interested. I can't be the only freak in the group of people that I know. :D

Also, I've never been to the desert. Me thinks that camping out "in the wild" of Ontario is a much different experience than a desert.

Ayhow, I'll get through it all. Until then, I expect that I'll be harrasing you lot with a load of questions in the meantime.

Canadagirl...

you are not the only freak... Welcome and I hope you make it this year!!! There’s plenty of people from up there that make it every year. Hang around here long enough and you may wind up meeting others from your area. Keep reading and if we can help, please feel free to ask!!!

Hola, slice!!!

Check the regionals part of eplaya...If it's happening in nyc, it'll probably be there.

Post by nhyrvana » Wed Nov 09, 2005 5:10 pm

New like a shiney button.
This would be me where the Burn is concerned.

Hi.

I've been looking at pictures of Burning Man for years now and always saying "I should go someday..."

No more "shoulds"
I'm going in 2006.

Yes I've read the First Timer's Guide and all the playa tips and survival guide. I'm going to keep reading them...and I am going to devour eplaya.

But my biggest quest is finding Burners in my area that I can hook up with. I'm in Champaign-Urbana Illinois. So far the only Burners I have seen online are in Chicago, and that is a good 2 hour drive for me.

Anyone else closer?

Hi, I'm Scott.

I first heard about Burning Man in 1992. It's been fun to watch it turn into a huge event and an entire subculture. I think I'm finally ready to take the plunge and make the trek. I'd thought about it in the past, but real life matters have gotten in the way.

I think my wife is convinced it would be a fun vacation after I explained the concept to her. We still have to figure out what to do with our kids, but if we plan ahead soon enough we can get my parents to watch them.

Any suggestions on what a beginner should do? I understand that there are many theme camps, many side activities, and plenty of opportunities to contribute to the community effort.

Try the "regionals" page off the main website. I know Joel is Illinois, and I'm pretty sure it aint Chicago, but I don't know his actual locale. Be warned, he lives up to ornery. (insert smiley here)
