in the process of doing that...
Yea, I'm in the process of doing that.
Specifically? well, bikes? are you able to rent them down there? Could not find info on this.
We'll be flying into probably Reno and hopefully renting an RV from there I presume, don't know if we can rent bikes there or where else?
We are still on the fence on the RV or tent issue. We are in in our 40's, yet are open to a tent-type community, but the privacy of an RV sounds appealing...
thanks....

Bikes: There is someone in Gerlach who buys bikes from departing burners (and possibly picks abandoned ones off the playa) and resells at teh beginning of the year. Downside: If he's not around or has run out of bikes you have no back up. You can try thrift stores in Reno, but keep in mind that they raise prices in that week. If you have a reno address (including perhaps a hotel, check if you make reservations) you can order a bike and have it shipped there.
RV--some people swear by them, others hate them saying that they seperate you from the event. If you have a medical condition exasperated by heat or dust may well be worth it. Carefully read threads about rentals--some companies don't rent if they know you are going to the burn, and at this point, you can expect them to have GPS and track you if you lie, you will have to clean it up, or pay someone to clean it up or pay a large clean up fee.

thanks again
Thanks,
this is the kind of information I'm looking for. You were right-on regarding the RV issue. I do have a bit of a sensitive side regarding overexposure to heat & sun..the RV may be the tkt. The web site DOES list an RV rental place that are BM-friendly...
I have already downloaded pdf brochure of the "survival guide". Do you know when they post the "theme" and other info for 2006?
thanks again...

First year burner this past event and did rent an RV. Reno and Cruise America will be your nearest and friendliest options. Plan on a hefty extra deposit though ($500) as the playa deals you extra cleaning duty. Cruise America also knows this. It's a bit pricey, about $1,300.00 for 7/8 days for the 5 person model. It may be less expensive for earlier reservation.
You could also find more people to share the expense but even with two people and all of our playa stuff, we were walking over each other. Having a tent set up outside of RV for storage/closet would make things more comfortable for 5 in the RV.

Thank for the info..
Nitevenus,
Thanks for the helpful advice. I have been checking out the Cruise America website. We are hoping to possibly rent an RV in Reno, don't want to do in San Fran...
As a first time burner...will you attend again in the future?
thanks again...

LeMook,
As a to be newbie, you hear things like going "home" to the playa at Black Rock City. Yep, I'm planning on going home in 2006! And it's not necessarily a place that you are going home to but a *family*.
As I told my campmates, the surroundings were harsh but inviting, it was tiring but invigorating and the people (and awesome art) were what made my experience.
I will be more than happy to offer up any help that I can. I joined a camp and they were so very helpful to me.
