Burningman Florida (Hurricane Wilma)
Welcome to Burningman Florida. The rules here are slightly different than at the offical Burningman event.
1. Leave every trace.
This means if you don't at the very least have shingles from your neighbors roof in your yard go and get some.
2. Drama queens and whiners are a must.
There are actually people here who must spend at least four hours in line to get gas, even though they really have no place to go.
3. Cash is the only way to go.
Please don't try to barter or trade services or gifts that is just silly. I mean it's not like the ATMs require electricity.
4. Always listen to your government they know what is best for you.
Despite four hurricanes last year and the power being out around for at least a month in some places, the government's recommendation is that you have 3 days of food and water for after the hurricane, by then 90 % of services will be restored. Today is day 4 and Palm Beach county is not yet at 40%.
5. Remember you must drive your car to get anywhere even if it is only 2 blocks away.
All intersections are four way stops but most people just disregard it. The population thinning is incredible. If you have a bike why use it. It's not like getting gas is going to be a problem with no power.
6. You can watch the man burn everynight.
Currently due to damage to structures and generators there is at least one home or business catching fire everyday. Bring marshmellows.
7. If you are actually prepared and able to survive Burningman Florida, remember we cannot guarantee this as an annual event. Sometimes we don't have it for years and sometimes we throw it four times a year.
Also notes: Burningman New Orleans was a wash out. It was great but we couldn't get enough people to wade and swim in the contaminated water, please help by sending floats , rafts and water wings to the church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Currently in Florida, on a generator, with food and gas, and lots of beer. I have new skylight in the kitchen from the tree deciding to relocate itself during Burningman Florida. Currently don't need anything, send looters we didn't any have like Burningman New Orleans.
I am getting really good with a chainsaw.
Sincerely,
Brendhan

Sounds like you're hanging in there. Your perspective makes your humor that much stronger. Thanks for that!

Understudy: We who live in Orlando wish to thank you for hosting Wilma this year. We got 3 hurricanes in a handful of weeks last year and didn't need a repeat.
Look on the brightside, your internet connection is obviously still up...

Yeah I hosting the Frances and Jeanne versions of Burningman Florida. Those were definite task mongers. Just as we cleaned up from one the other one came through.
The reasons I have internet connection is because I have a good sized generator and a lot of gas.
There is still the greek alphabet versions of Burningman Florida that could be hosted, we still have month to go.
Sincerely,
Brendhan

Understudy,
.
Best be careful who knows about your gas stash. One of those "SUV/hummer before food and shelter" people will be sniffing around. 10 million people live on land just 3 feet above sea level. The new coal plant in the desert will help warm things up (around the ice cap). Beside gas you will be needing water wing real soon.

Residents in the keys for Burningman Florida had 5 feet of water. Priority one much like Burningman New Orleans was to save the alchool. At least they have their priorities straight.

Sorry, all I get is the vision of something extreamly bony with lots of sores. Do you carry him out to intruders so he can growl feebly?Understudy wrote:All items are guarded by my pit bull with aids.

Nah, I keep on a medical cocktail with Steriods. PETA is probably having a temper tantrum.theCryptofishist wrote:Sorry, all I get is the vision of something extreamly bony with lots of sores. I appreciate the offer. I live in a blue collar neighborhood and have 3 roofers who are neighbors the repair on the big hole is already done and I just have a little sophet and facia repair left on the roof. The drywall in the kitchen and bathroom is next.Niacin wrote:Sorry about your luck, but you are dead on with the gas.
In other news, I'm up in PBG but work in WPB and own a scratched up pickup; so let me know if you need help with cleaning up, blue roofin', or something.
Also I have a wife she is a cheap labor source (love you dear). I chop the trees up into bite size pieces, she tosses them in the wheelbarrow and hauls them to the curve.
I received power last night. However it was more of a curse than a blessing. About an hour after power was restored we lost a phase in the neighborhood. I lost a couple of electronic devices and my well pump lost prime because it ran slow at the weird voltages. Fortunatly I have check valve so it only took about a half hour to reprime the pump. I now longer need a shower today. I hate cold unfiltered showers.
The lines at the gas stations and home repair stores has disappeared, but the intersections in many areas are still four way stops. The population thinning continues.
I have to admit I have no desire to have Burningman Florida. I am thinking a Burningman New York might not be bad.
Sincerely,
Brendhan
