Marian Goodell is a cunt

"Marian Goodell is a cunt!" Those were some of the first words I heard when I first came out to Burning Man a few years ago. They came from the lips of some old hippie who had camped next door to us--one of those John Law-worshipping types who are always whining about how Burning Man has sold out, isn't what it used to be, etc., etc. He blamed her for "commercializing" the event, for being interested in nothing other than money, and a thousand other things.

Yet over the following years, I've come to see just how essential Marian is to this event: how hard she works, how willing she is to take a behind-the-scenes role, and how she exemplifies the bohemian yet entrepreneurial spirit of Burning Man. So, if ever I see that smelly old hippie again, I'm going to tell him: "Marian Goodell may or may not be a cunt, but you are certainly a slanderous prick!"
