Newbie, traveling from ireland ,advice needed

Post by vbold » Wed Nov 16, 2005 4:48 pm

Hi All,

I've been dying to go to buring man for years and i've decided that 2006 is going to be my year :-) :-). But i'll be travelling from ireland so can anyone give me some advice on some of the bits and pieces that are floating around in my head at the mo

Best city to fly to from LA as i think that is the only west coast direct flight for me.
What can i pick up along the way in terms of a survival kit and a costume (in fact a costume guide would be great!!!!)
I'll probably be travelling on my own so how's the best way to meet up with people, join a camp? Do a ride share from LA?

And in general just any advice from anyone who has had 2 travel from europe to get to BM.

Dust. Anybody? No? High in fat, low in fat? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? . It's actually very low in fat. You can have as much dust as you like.

Hi, vbold,

I'm sure you'll get all sorts of advice. Please look Louise and me up when you get to Burning Man -- The Civilized Explorer
http://www.cieux.com/bm/BriefGuide.html

My thought is that you'd fly from LA to Reno, although getting out to the Burn from there may be a problem. Reno rental places appear not to like to rent to Burners because of the dust problem on returned cars.

See our Reno pages at
http://www.cieux.com/bm/bmtoc.html#renoResources
for links to places to buy stuff in Reno. You can get everything you need at Twin Cities Surplus, but there are also stores such as REI, Sierra Trading Post, and tons of thrift and second-hand stores to buy gear and costumes.

Check at the Burning Man site for regional contacts; I know there are some in England, but I'm sorry to say I don't know about Ireland. See
http://regionals.burningman.com/eu.html
for information on more nearly local contacts for you than in LA. But for LA, see
http://regionals.burningman.com/us_ca_la.html
for that contact. The Burning Man Web site is your friend.

Looking forward to seeing you. (Oh, we plan on giving clothes away next year. For photos of this year's clothing give away, see

You'll be able to get some of your playawear from us.)

And get in touch with Hageymon who runs the black rock city international burners hostel. He's on the board under that name.
