At least that would be organic.

"Gompertzian analysis suggests that rising mortality from prostate cancer may be related to rapidly changing lifestyles among Japanese. Intake of animal proteins was the most strongly correlated parameter considered with the mortality from prostate cancer."
I believe that pickling with aka-jiso may be implicated.

i'd volunteer to cart a bag of debris home. you could also burn any parts of the animal not eaten.

why yes? well, like someone said earlier, it's important to know where your food comes from. i've seen videos and heard testimonies about slaughterhouses. it seems way gross and awefull. at the same time, i indulge in meat almost everyday.

i remember being a kid in a rural area and every few houses had a pig or a cow or something that they'd raise for a couple years with lots of love and stuff. then the day would come when the butcher'd visit, kill it and haul it to his business to prepare. Sometimes he'd keep 1/2 the meat to sell and give the other half, packed and wrapped, to the houselhold who in turn supplied many neighbors with chops or bacon or whatever.

i think we all had a much higher degree of appreciation for our dinner when we knew we were eating Sammy or Betty or Piggy or Muddy or whatever the animal was named.

it'd be fun to buy an animal destined for the cold, cruel, impersonal slaughter house. SPOIL the hell out of it. give it a fantastic week of good food, petting, playing. then humanely kill and eat it.

ya, this might sound fucked up to most people but i'd feel much better about my meat if i knew it had lived a good and comfortable life before being sacraficed to quell my dinning desires.
no way does it sound fucked up man. i had a similar experience growing up on a farm in france. some of the best and i mean *the best* fillet mignon was the stuff the neighbours up the road had. i remember eating it one night and asking them the obvious "is this one of yours" question. their answer (roughly translated): "i think it is margret"

damn, margret was gooooooood.

they then went on to tell me about how most of the stuff we do to our meat in the US is actually illegal in France, the hormones and other chemicals, etc.

no wonder it tasted so awesome. I'm all for this idea, as long as the pig has a good time too.

Ugly, it's not that simple. As he said, we use hormones that are illegal in the rest of the world. Breast cancer is 7 times what it was 60 years ago. Most researchers believe that animal hormones are a great part of the cause.

Tofu tastes pretty sucky and now they say that it's bad too.

Do a search on "soy + danger"

I'm thinking of emulating Henry Ford and subsisting on breast milk.

BINGO!!
It's called "Premarin" and "Prempro," FDA-approved as of 1940 onwards. The conditions under which that medical nuke is made amounts to equine puppy mills. Thank the Gods the U.N. classified them as carcinogens and the Premarin farms are getting closed down.

Sorry...Premarin/Prempro and their cancer link is one of my hot buttons...

Hi Diane, there's nothing at all to say "sorry" for. PUBLICISE that shit so people will know.
I think about breasts a lot :) , but when I'm in the checkout line at the market and they ask me if I want to donate towards breast cancer research, I'm not thinking about breasts. I'm thinking about the American cattlemens association.
I'm thinking about the relatively small profit increase they gain by using hormones they know are dangerous.
I wouldn't be surprised if feedlot owners eat only beef from pastuered cattle. They know WTF is going on.

You wouldn't have a Market of Choice or Whole Foods over there, would you? MoC has Painted Hills beef which is free-range and hormone-free. I'm not the world's greatest beef eater (this wolf loves salmon and ostrich), but when I do get beef or lamb it's Painted Hills.

Hmmm, well, not really. SOME researchers think hormones cause cancer. Breast cancer may be DIAGNOSED at a seven times rate, it hasn't increased sevenfold. Basically, every doctor will tell you no one actually knows what causes breast cancer.

For example, high fat diets are a factor; those nice crispy vegan french fries can be more dangerous than a hamburger. POSSIBLY, though, possibly. My objection is to blanket statements, the researchers don't know whatall causes breast cancer, to pin it primarily on beef hormones is misleading. Not defending beef hormones mind you! Hell, drinking alcohol is also a known risk factor for breast cancer, but are we shredding the booze industry here? Soy products are risky for women with ER+ breast cancer, perhaps more so than animal growth hormones. All those examples involve external/evironmental factors, which exclude genetics and heredity. ACK!

For a very thorough discussion of risk factors and applied statistics, read Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book. It covers every angle of breast cancer fairly extensively, far too extensively for me to quote here. I'm still searching for the "seven times" information, not finding it so far.

rant over, thanks for your attention.

http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/signs_and_symptoms/

A concise overview of breast cancer risk factors etc.. Alright, there has been an increase in BC according to the information here, but threefold is more like it than seven.

nit-pickingly yours,
