The 2006 theme was just announced!!! It's "Just Hang In There Kitten!"

The theme is...

let me get this straight...

"Hang in there kitten"?

Yeah. And Apokiliptika is plantin' bleedin' DAISIES to beautify the playa.

Assuming this really *is* the theme - and I have my hopeful doubts -

(1) What are we hanging in for? Who is Kitten? You can't mean...

(2) We're basing Burning Man around a mass marketed poster from the 70's? How Many People even remember that (dumb) poster? Since few will remember, esp, . te majority of people of the age that do BRC, this will inevitably lead to...

(3) Headlines in the Reno Gazette - "BURNING MAN FESTIVAL PROMOTES ANIMAL VIOLENCE" - Prominent fixture in BRC this year is cats (stuffed or real) hanging from ropes. Think it wouldn't happen?

(4) Base the art around... "Hang in there, kitten". A mass marketed poster. What'll we name the streets? What will get you a grant to do art? What could even be considered "in theme" when the theme is a mass-marketed poster. Not very inspiring. WHich then makes me think...

(5) 2007 theme - the fly on a 10 oz. Dixie paper coffee cup. Maybe, tho, this is all a spoof, and they will have a good theme (last year's was pretty good). I hope so... otherwise...

(6) Maybe the "theme" era is over. Or should be. DON'T rely on a theme for the seminal vessel of your art - by God(dess), come up with something original on your own, that stands on it's own merit. There used to be a sense of individuality out there, and it'd be nice to see it come back.

I'm hoping for the Spoof theorem.

Vedy Interesting.

Maybe the "Hang in There Kitten" is more like a major topic (the focal point if you will) for like, what the previous writer described, a 70s kind of thing. Maybe its a theme utilized to conjure up old crap: Pac Man, Pong, rainbow susbenders, big ass combs, Bay City Rollers (yes, I liked the BCR), etc.

Ah, who am I kidding? Its gonna be total anarchy I tell you. Innocent kittens hanging from trees; scared, confused. I can't take it. Stop the Madness!!!

You know, when I think of what creative people get up to in a desolate wasteland, kittens really come into my mind. Yeah. Not that a theme camp made up of bad motivational posters wouldn't go amiss, though.

I attended the all staff meeting this past weekend in San Fran as
well as the first ARTery (art team) meeting of the year. So, this year is
officially now in swing and on the way to being even better then
last year (is that possible in terms of art and playa vibe?)

Also the man is going to kick ass. If random rotation by participants
wasn't enough last year, this year the man will have even more art and
rooms underneath him in a very Metropolis meets the Soviet Union
aesthetic kinda way and he will sink and rise from his base up to his
waist depending on the Hope to Fear ratio that is determined through
participant interaction with art projects and meters.

Official announcement should be any day now...

Lies! All Lies!!! The art theme is "Just Hang In There Kitten" anything you see from the "org" is just more lies trying to trick you out of making "Just Hang In There Kitten" art work.
