Just finished The Man Burns Tonight by Donn Cortez. At first it seemed a little hokey, but then it really kicked in and I felt like I just spent another week at Burning Man. Great read when you're missing the playa...l

When flying I usually skip the airport bookstores and kiosks as I've already packed my flight reading but last week I saw this...

...and paid premium price. A Crack in the Edge of the World so far has been a damn good read if you happen to live in the bay area. A VERY nice descriptive overview of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
8 out of 10 stars.

I've been on this Hunter S. Thompson kick for the past couple of months. So far I've read: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (very good), Better Than Sex: Confessions of a Politcal Junkie (awesome), and just finished Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 (Highly recommended!!).
I want to get more HST books but from what my sources tell me, I may be getting some for Christmas. PLEASE HURRY. I need more Hunter!! I want to do something for him at Burning Man. This guy took me on some very cool journeys. Maybe I should leave him a shot of Wild Turkey at the Temple. Dunno.
Thanks Gonzo!

I'm knee deep in several books, with a handful on deck, and I just got "Nudism in Modern Life" in the mail today. Written in 1927, revised 1941 edition, just a quick skim and I'm grinning already. The section on the future has great potential given this year's theme.
I'm in the middle of 1491, 1776, Queer Cowboys, What Einstein Told his Cook 2. I've put down Alexander the Great and The Holy Grail for now(that's two books, silly person).
On Deck: The Captured, Oh What a Slaughter, Land of the Burnt Thigh, Her Majesty's Spymaster, and Nelson's Trafalgar.
Plus this month's F&SF.

Iso, the amazon page isn't loading--is that the Winchester? I'm kinda over him, but I'd like to know what your experience is.

In the middle of Body of Secrets by Bamford, the author of the Puzzle Palace. It's an overview of the NSA history. I recommend it.
