Of course, that's only the ticket. Other expenses (transpo, food, water, lodging, shelter once there, booze, drugs, etc) can really add up. And then there's the whole thing of being off work for a week (if you don't have vacation saved up). Figure at least $500, prolly more, depends on how far away you are. Overall, ticket, transpo, the whole shebang, is likely gonna eat up the better part of $1,000.

Then it goes up if you want to put on a big art project! :D

I can see how this would be ^slightly^ confusing since part of the pricing is based on ticket availability and the rest is based on time and where you get your ticket.

There are 7,000 tickets available at $185, 7,000 available at $200, 6000 at $225, and unlimited tickets available at $250 UNTIL August 25, 2006 when they go up to $280.

What will probably happen is that the $185 and $200 tickets will sell out fast. The $225 not so fast. It'll be easy to get $250 tickets because you can get them from whenever the $225's sell out until August 25. You can get tickets at the gate until the Thursday of the event but they'll be $300 - $350.

Hope this helps.
It's what you make it.

Heh, Heh... Well said.

and expanding on Magikal's numbers:

linz23, a lot depends on where you're coming from too. We came from Louisville, Ky and spent around $900 on diesel fuel alone for '05 (my second Burn). But there was three of us in the truck so that helped make it affordable for everyone. With my third of the fuel and other expenses (both necessary and otherwise), I spent around $1000 total on the 5000 mile round-trip journey. But... we went to SF post-burn, via Napa Valley.

I see you're in Denver which is about half-way for me, so there's a start on figuring fuel costs anyway. And I've run into several folks from Denver also, so finding a ride share shouldn't be hard.

No matter what, the first year is the worst cost wise, mind you I'm not factoring in any art projects that will arise in the years following.

Costs, real quick estimate, for ’05 –’04 was more because I drove and had gas, hotel and food costs much higher than if I had flown.

Remember, I live in Virginia,
Raw materials for stuff I made or made at BM $30-40 (gifts)
Flight, Southwest about $250
Over loaded bags (3) extra $50
Hotel in Reno (Sands) $30
Food in Reno $25 or less, friends bought me dinner Sunday
Crap bought in Reno including a new bike from K-mart $300-350 – ice, food, water, booze, beer, dollar store junk -- as usual I had a lot of booze, beer and food left over for DPW
Share of mini-van rental $120 (total)
Share gas, $20-30 (total)
Ticket $200 something
Hotel in Reno (El something) $40 – bed was too soft
Food in Reno $20 or less

Rounding up all over the place, so I can figure it cost me under $1,300.

Now, if you don’t have camping supplies and ‘stuff’ your initial costs will be much higher. I figure that I am going to kick in with some friends this time and ship much of my current stuff out and then store it in Reno, that means that I will have to replace more than several hundred dollars worth of stuff (cooker, big tent, cheap sleeping bag(s), air mattress, etc.) next year.
