100 years of Burning Man

Post by andi » Sat Dec 24, 2005 1:07 pm

I am putting together an interactive art project for the playa in 2006 and I need YOUR help. The project is a monument from the future designating the Black Rock desert as a UN world heritage site on the 100th anniversary of Black Rock City first rising from the dust. It will detail that 100 year history and will be burned to return to the future after the man burns on Saturday night.

What I need from you are predictions and prognostications both your hopes and your fears. These stories about the future of Burning Man are being collected on the eplaya (http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=11936) in the 2006 Art and Performance forum. Please help me out, we need to collect quite a lot of stories. The final compilation will be created by a "future council" comprised so far of me and Michael Michael. A couple of artists have already stepped forward to help with the structure (it will be relatively small, 5'x5'x10').

If there is enough participation and many stories and the enthusiasm for it maybe there can be more than one monument with other "future councils" creating them. All would use the same source for stories (with some of their own) and each monument would have the same dimensions and burn platform. A "Possible Garden" of different versions of the future all of which will be transported back to the future via fire on Saturday night.

Anyway, please help out with what you can do now. Please go to the thread I created on the eplaya and add your future tale of hope or fear. If you have any questions about this project feel free to post them here. Thank you in advance.

True, but those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it and sometimes with disastrous results. Some lessons are best learned only once.

doomed...

it's really best if you don't think about those...

if we are going to diverge paths with them, it needs to be in totality

And let us not forget this gem of historiography: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to have Santayana repeated to them." (Joe Sobran)

Replicationism. >>grins<<

Am working on the sequel, to be posted to the other site when I get it done. Things *really* changed between the debacle of the socialist crud of 2084 and the terran rebirth in 2087, driven by (of all things) that state sponsored gathering... Amazing what a small glitch in reality can bring...
