All guys are respectful at Burning Man
I'm working on a book project of portraits of people at Burning Man.
FYI: This was the project for 2003...
www.supersnail.com/concept
There's one page in the book where I want to address
guys who are a problem. I'd like to put some quotes from the
community (you folks) about advice for (and complaints about)
over eager T&A seeking boys armed with a camera, a willie, or both.
If I'm going to make this book I may as well try and address one
of the bigger problems at the event.
I don't want dumb guys to see the cuties in the book and then run out
to the playa and make the problem even worse.
Education is key. If we tell em what the scoop is in the book, it'll help.
If you reply to this post and don't want what you say
repeated on that page in the book, please say so.
If it's okay for me to print it in the book, it would be rad if you
could say that also.
Thanks a lot!!!!!

Something to Consider...
There's a great community board here in the bay area called 'The Well' and one of the principle mantras is YOYOW (You Own Your Own Words) which is another way of saying that people who post publically do not necessarily consent to having their words used outside of the forum unless specifically stated.
If you've not done so you might consider discussing the idea of a book with members of the ORG just to see what - if any - obligatory hoops you might be required to jump through. Also, keep in mind that even if someone posts in this particular topic that it does not automatically constitute consent to quote. If you reply to this post and don't want what you say

Very true. That's why I asked for people to say if it's okayBadger wrote: Also, keep in mind that even if someone posts in this particular topic that it does not automatically constitute consent to quote.
for me to use what they write or not. As you said,
concent is key!

Hey Julian--
I am so SO sorry that I never made it to your camp for a photo shoot. I could blame it on that whole "i's the playa and there's no schedules and I lost track of time" and whatnot but mainly it was just ebcuase I was a dumbass.
My apologies and although I doubt it did, I hope it didn't inconvience you in anyway.
Best of luck with the book!

Any of you have advice for the jerks out there with over active cameras?
Or advice for boys that just don't quite understand "piss off" as well
as they should?
The more relaxed, calm and respectful you are, the more likely you are to get laid.juliansnail wrote: Any of you have advice for the jerks out there with over active cameras?

PM me if you want more detail.
Fight for the fifth freedom!
Don't assume
(you may use my words, or you may use your own words to describe my idea in more detail)
Don't assume. . .
. . . that the "rules" which apply in the default world apply here/in BRC
. . . that you know the rules in BRC
. . . that there are any rules in BRC
Talk about your desires and comfort levels with the person you are trying to connect with. Listen as they describe their own desires and comfort levels. Your actions should reflect the mutual intersections of both your desires and comfort levels.

I am not particularly sexual when I am at Burningman , there is just so much more going on there than that. I have had sex there, but with much less frequency than in the real world . You are missing so much if that becomes the focus of your endeavors. So, I always wonder what these yahoos would experience, if sex was removed from the picture.
BTW, congratulations on winning the title of Miss Bindi world 2003. I think it was your version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" on Sitar ,that clinched it. Love BAMBI

media stuff
Hi Julian!
Quiet Girl here.
As to suggestions, I posted this list in its entirety last year, but here's a link:
http://www.angelfire.com/film/quietgirl ... media.html
As far as people that don't understand "piss off" are concerned, they're nothing that a face full of pepperspray can't fix! Just kidding.
Myself, I've only been hassled in a way that freaked me out once, in 2000, and I, uh, took care of the problem with the individual involved.

Overall, people out here are much cooler than in the default world, though at times they're a little more persistent than I'd like.

Sex in the City
I totally agree Bambi. Out there I pull down 16 hour days, and when I get home, I want to strip, drink beer, and crash in that order. Sex is something that has to be scheduled in if it's to happen at all. This year I had sex on the first and last day I was on Playa (2.5 weeks) and totally luxuriated in my newly found independence. The year prior, the b/f made sex into this "second job" that I often resented. Oop, did I say that out loud?Bambi of Finland wrote:I am not particularly sexual when I am at Burningman , there is just so much more going on there than that. Heya Julian
I couldn't agree with you more - the standard reaction of most men to seeing pictures of semi-naked or women in an interesting outfit at Bman is "I wanna go get me some of that!" To which I then explain that the ratio of men to women on the playa is about 2 to 1 and that you better be pretty interesting looking yourself or look equally as good naked to even get the attention of such lovely women at Burningman. The prospect of going camping in the desert with primarily men seems to dampen this horny motivation right away. Funny dat.
Keep up the good work SupaSnail.

this is what i look like naked:
<img src="http://www.cultureshark.net/tgoesh/ass1.jpg">
and i've had no shortage of opportunities to get naked with some amazingly attractive (in both the physical *and* mental sense) women out there.
but then again, i'm not one of those "gotta get me somme o that" guys...

We had two newbies with us this year. On their first day out there a woman and her boyfriend stopped their bicycles and got off to take a picture within our camp. She was wearing a very sheer top and posed for her boyfriend behind the camera. The two newbies actually stood and ran over with their cameras ruining the moment for the two of them. She took her hat and covered her shirt saying, "I don't think so." I called them frat boys all week and they knew what I meant.
