How many posts must you make to be accepted.
Please answer this age old question. What is the magic number of posts one must reach before one is allowed (by you senior folk) to speak freely?

Take your chances.
you can get booted off at anytime and post counts make no difference.
Post count give no seniority.

It's not a count of the posts... it's the posts that count!
It's also like... that Erhardt groupie thing... (Sorry - erhardt) - if you have to ask permission, you can't. Those that do, do.
You are always free to speak your mind (within the guidelines of the TOS, pretty much)... the only caevat is being an open (semi anarchaic) society on this board, others can also speak their minds freely.
I know that's not much of an answer, but iti's the best one I can come up with right now.
Then again... you've been here a while yourself... you should know tis already!!
Have a magical day...

People are gonna judge you by what you say. As the highest poster on this board I have to say that (with much false modesty) a lot of what I say is of value. Some of it is just plain silliness--of debatable value to others, but loved by me. Sometimes I'm just an obsessive twit reacting like a terrior to a rat. I try and offer apoligies or if I can't because I'm seeing too much red, at least admit that I might be acting like a jackass. I try to treat newbies with respect, but I do engage in eye-rolling at times. You will see at times old timers saying things like "wise for someone new to the board" and then you can see people getting respect for what they've been saying. If you look at some of the clueless semi-trolls who come in and get slammed, it's very much about what they say--often times similier things might be gotten away with by longer time participants because there's been enough interaction for others to see the toungue in the cheek. And sometimes they get slammed for it too.

Quality, not quantity.Cabanasprings wrote:Please answer this age old question. What is the magic number of posts one must reach before one is allowed (by you senior folk) to speak freely?
It's what you make it.
what counts matters
oh the dread of it all....what difference can it make how many posts it takes to get heard when the very next one could be your last?
for the record, i think the magic number might be forty-four.

If my first four posts were very insightful and my fifth was frat boy quality, I would be deemed a "piece of shit." So you argue that it is the quality of my fifth post that labels me.
Now what if I have made 249 moderately entertaining posts and on the 250th I say something stupid. You would all just laugh and think I said something stupid. You wouldn't beat the emotional crap out of me.
So their must be some breakeven number of posts.
Right?

Re: How many posts must you make to be accepted.
There is no magic number. It comes down to intentions and intrepretations. Be it post 1 or post 2197 you look at each one and assess it with whatever info you have at hand and you trust your gut instinct. If it doesn't seem right you question it. Otherwise you move on. Some people are easier to figure out than others..writing styles also come into play....so there is no magic number only a bunch of variables that differs from person to person.Cabanasprings wrote:Please answer this age old question. I also have to say look back at Fishy's posts as she covers other aspects of it pretty well.

I try to be open to new people and have tried to engage them , particularly when I could spend more time on the board. Until people get to know you though, they don’t know how to take what you’ve posted, especially if it seems to be designed to insight disharmony, is aggressive, sexist, or puts people down in some way.
Once people get to know you, you have more latitude, people can tell if you joking, or if what your saying is truly what you feel. Often people here don’t mind an honest disagreement if they can tell you have a good heart.
I think often a lot of us came to Burning Man feeling that we have finally found our people, our tribe, feeling that makes us a part of the tribe, feeling an outsider makes us outsiders.

Re: How many posts must you make to be accepted.
There's not. I've only been on this board about a year and I never, ever noticed any animosity towards me because I'm new (here). That could be because most of my early posts are logistical questions and (hopefully) helpful answers where I had answers. So when I did start offering my *opinion* about critical tits or center camp or whatever, people here knew who I was, how many times I'd been, what I have to offer the community, that I knew what I was talking about, that I was actually part of the community, etc. In fact, months ago one of the mods here got into my shit about something thinking I was just some jerkoff instigator. Later that day he wrote back saying that he'd read some of my old posts and knew that because I'd been contributing to the community that I was more than some jerkoff instigator. There's your ratio.Cabanasprings wrote:Naw - really.HughMungus wrote:Quality, not quantity.Cabanasprings wrote:Please answer this age old question. Right?
Think of this way: If you walk into my theme camp (without me knowing anything about you) and start offering your opinion about my camp I'll think, "Who the fuck are you and why the fuck should I care about your opinion?" If you're someone I know from experience who knows what the fuck he's talking about, I might be more inclined to listen to your opinion.
Whenever someone offers their opinion about something, you really have to consider the source to know what the value of their opinion is (to you).
It's what you make it.
faux luv pas
the analogy is revealing and i know from sordid experience that the vibe can be rendered tenuous when strolling into other people's theme camps (lives) and offering the glorious news of how you'd run the place.
to fine tune the analogy would be to envision a camp that exists solely for the exchange of the stuff floating around in our heads. cafe communique perhaps. i would assume that free expression would be more liberally tolerated in such a locale. but then, as we all know from "us and them" and all that, tolerance is not the same as acceptance.
acceptance is futile.
now, where's my tongue?

Well for those that do not know, I should be ……..somewhere in the 6-8000 (completely well earned) posts, and I say, well earned if you know who all I have been this few years on Eplaya. Through the trials and tribulations...... I'd like to say that my posts have meant something one way and another. (Not “or”.)
Usually it takes a year or so, (or has a history as such) for some sometimes, to figure what I post.
But in a ways it's just like life. Maybe more like wine if I do say so myself…..better yet, like Steely Dan. Gotta read or listen to it a couple a times before it sinks in.
Eplaya is like life. like, in many ways.
My opinion, content and intentions does it for me inside the posts counted.
I like to use as few words as possible. Sometimes that causes confusion.
(I've even done it with as little as one word on this board.)
Few words make more posts.

Just something I've noticed today...
IF you look at the advice you got from a buncha people...
AND
You review the posts you've made today since asking the question...
You might realize the person responsible for your plight... may be yourself.
Seriously - it's pretty rough and kinda caustic. You want people to accept your posts? Quit fucking with them. People might start giving you respect, rather than scorn. You have a long history here of doing just that, and honestly, people find it unamusing. And, I hate to say it, boring.
I'm giving you what is kind of obvious from a disaffected outsider's viewppoint. You got an awesome (and sharp) mind, but it will go unnoticed if you spend your time offending folks - they just don't wanna hear it, and will treat you kinda like shit.
I've said my piece. I hope it makes sense to you, hon. And I'm really sorry...
Have a wonderful Freitag...

BBS, you are kidding right?I'm giving you what is kind of obvious from a disaffected outsider's viewppoint.
Far as I've seen from BBS.......(on this board.).......BBS has been here a long....long ......long time.
I'm not going by the post count. That does'nt fool me.
It's like ....you know what I mean......running into someone that everyone says...."oh yeah? you guys seem like you've known each other longer than that!"
Or,
You just met them and it seems you've known each other forever.
People (IMHO.) like BBS are like that and it does'nt count.
An eplayan soul mate.
BBS is one of those.
OMHO of course.

And if anyone says like....I'm tryin to hit on....... or tryin to insinuate anything....... needs to be B slapped......Weather they like it or not.....and if they like it.......well ......well.......well.......
That's not the point. large post counts don't get you accepted.....on eplaya.......so it seems.
T-
Gd' nite.
yes I'm testing how this new code works........How many times do you get to change your post?
I'm one that pushes the limits.
I do my best not to go over board.
In the time limits that are given.
And the amount of times that are given to post to each user.
And to see how many times you can change each post.
WOO HOO!
Do we need new code?
sorry.....
does eplaya need new code?
Who can edit the most times on eplay within the constraints?
One more time.
Goodnight.

The topic is "How many posts must "YOU" make to be accepted."
Not "How many posts must "I" make to be accepted."
And thank you for speaking for everyone here. I am positive they appreciate it.

Start with the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop.
Divide by the number of cavities created by said licking.
Add the number of times you peed on the playa last year.
Subtract either the number of watts of sound that split your skull or were forced to be removed from your system by the "sound nazis" based on your perspective.
Multiply by the number of nipples in 5 meters of the critical tits parade.
Subtract by the number of times someone has bitched about "shirt cockers."
And then ruminate on the true worth of "acceptance," anyway.

Apparently, the answer is ONE. Acceptance is automatic - just hit the submit button.
It is the tone and tenor of the initial and following posts that determines whether one is accepted as an asshole or an oracle - or whatever combination of those.
Following that, doesn't the question become, "How many posts does it take before you are considered to be an experienced e-playan"?
Answer again, ONE. Just ask some of the chronic lurkers.
