"The thing with the water" is this.
A friend of Scott's who had worked with homeless youth told him that they had told her (are we following everyone?) that people do give them food (restaurant leftovers I bet--at least as I understood the context) but that they don't get water (and in Berkeley they're aren't a lot of public fountains) or containers to carry it in. After that Scott and I started buying bottled water to give away. I also made some'"lunches" too. WE had a couple flats of water for people to take some and give to anyone who seemed like they were thirsty. I also had some of that "gladware" to pack up left overs for distribution afterwards. I remember a story that he told me when we first knew each other when he gave a space blanket out of his emt kit to some homeless kids in the rain.
