Tome of Media [Images / Movies]

Post by psilence » Mon Feb 06, 2006 5:23 pm

tome
n.

1. One of the books in a work of several volumes.
2. A book, especially a large or scholarly one.
Here I'd hoped to assemble a partial list of burningman media pages. I know such a list is not and can not by it's very nature ever be completed, but I've done the best I can. I'd grown tired of sifting through tons of mailing lists, webrings and search engine results and all of that rot, so I've done the work for you for your convenience. Not to mention the fact that you now have a straight shot to pictures of the event itself, not having to look through other event's albums and not having to deal with some of the seizure inducing web designs of others. I hope you enjoy.

This list encompasses the event from 1994 onward, and I'm sure there are earlier photos, so do feel free to add your own links at your own leisure.
For the movies you'll generally need quicktime capability, however the QT player contains known spy/ad ware.

There is a clean alternative,
QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files without having to install the official QuickTime Player.

All QuickTime formats (.mov .qt .3gp etc.) are supported, including streaming content and QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages.

Some advantages compared to QuickTime player:

* Quick and easy install
* It's easy to make an unattended installation
* No background processes
* Use a player of your own choice
* Low on resources
* Smaller size

Of course all images and works are property of their creators and all due credit and appreciation is theirs.

Respect,
-Joe

[EDIT 1: Spelling, syntax.]
[EDIT 2: Credit where credit is due.]
[EDIT 3: Fixed google syntax.]

>burningman media pages.

ITYM "image pages." People's personal photo albums are not quite the same as media coverage.

To see how BM has been portayed in the print media, I suggest a search for articles on a site like LexisNexis or IngentaConnect. You can find newpaper articles from The San fran Chronicle all the way down to the smallest podunk local paper's blurb, to see how the event is portaryed, as well as articles coving the artistic, anthropological and cultural aspects of the event.

Thank you much, but I was using this definition of media:
Content files such as movie clips, still images, music tracks, or sounds.
Point well taken, though. I didn't want to delve into that whole realm, seeing as we have more than a few posts here and in other places, as well as independent websites denouncing the mass media's presence at the event.

Also, thank you chai. Too bad you have to purchase most of those :(

I should correct myself before I seem like a jackass...I wasn't thinking clearly when I posted and hadn't realized I covered from the first burn onwards. My mistake.

Thanks for posting this. I especially liked the http://www.playatunes.com link; as well as the alternative Quicktime installer that works better than Apple's without all the marketing crap that they usually include.
:D
I don't experiment with drugs anymore; I already know which ones I like.
