Plans needed to build go kart (for Oxygen bar)

Post by taylorsyn » Tue Jan 31, 2006 2:00 am

Well since there is such an emphessis on drinking booze, why not expose people to a healthy high if you will? Yes, this is where my oxygen bar on wheels theory comes itno play.

Ive aquired a sears 10hp ride on lawn mower and I want to mount the engine on a go-kart that I will build. I am looking for some plans that use common of the shelf components and I was wondering if anyone could point me to some resources or reccomend some books?

I found plans on the internet but Im not to keen on paying for them.

Ive done plenty of work on cars but that was all fixing something that was already established! So I just need the right guidance on its conception! And she will be born!

Perhaps you might even have spare parts lying in your basement collecting dust to donate?

is the mower in operational shape?

I'd suggest stripping it down to frame, then maybe modifying the already present gearing to something Playa speed. much easier than trying to fabricate up a brand new custom frame.

changing a few gears/sprockets/chains is a hell of a lot easier than trying to line up your own drive train (trust me :) )

Is it a chain driven mower? I believe that will make the process of converting it into a cart easier. Also, since 'seated' karts are prohibited you'll need to add some stuff to make it an art car and get permission from the DMV to drive it around. Or make it so that you will be standing on it, but that would be a shame of a 10HP engine :P

The frame shouldn't be too hard to weld, if you've never welded before you should find a buddy that has done it. You could go wild and do front wild and do a frontwheel driven A-frame type chassis. Wide airtires are the answer for your grip, think wheelcart (sp?). Here's a pic if I missed the translation: http://www.berensenservicemarkt.nl/kruiwagen.jpg

And what do you mean by 'Oxygen bar'?

Well my plan was to make it an Art cart. Not sure on the type of drive train I have not looked at it yet. Basically I want to run an oxygen concentrator off it and hook people up with some good ole high concentration oxygen.

A small oxygen concentrator uses approx 400 watts of power. If your riding mower has lights, it may have an alternator. If not, you will have to add one and then run the OC from an invertor. The speed limit in the City and on the Playa is 5 mph. That should be in the range the mover likes to move at. The suggestion to use the existing frame and as many of the original components makes the most sense from a time and cost basis. You will need DMV approval for driving it, so it must look like a Mutant Vehicle. If you plan on using it at night, consider lighting, safety is just as important as decoration in getting a DMV nite lic. A small unit should provide about 5 liters of O2 per minute. There is usually little or no storage capacity, but it starts generating almost instantly. You may also wish to consider the mask system and sanitation of the same. Nice sounding project.
Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right.

more art-gokart madness

Post by taylorsyn » Tue Feb 21, 2006 5:18 pm

Hey Dust Devil,

Ive seen affordable used 5 liter units that use about 300watts, and I think I would use cannulas instead of a face mask becuase there much cheaper! I suppose I could make up a bleach solution to sterilize them in.

Money is the main issue here since I work part time and live in Boston I dont have much between food and rent. But hopefully that will change soon with a second part time job! :)
