Probably the only reason you know the shooter was Cheney is he was *required* to file a police report, which is public record. No requirement about reporting who was there but not involved... But because it put a guy in the hospital, and was pretty public the way it happened, it couldn't be quashed.
Had he *not* reported it, as I remember, that would be a felony - an impeachable offense. That would have put him in jepardy of losing hs job. And any future political appointment. NOT an option.
Remember - politics dictate all... and if you're one of the most powerful people on the planet, you want to make sure you remain untouchable so you can continue to run the reich, er, country the way you are told to by those who put you there...
Hmm,,, what are those cars doing pulling up in front of my house?

American foreign and defense policy is adrift. Conservatives have criticized the incoherent policies of the Clinton Administration. They have also resisted isolationist impulses from within their own ranks. But conservatives have not confidently advanced a strategic vision of America's role in the world. They have not set forth guiding principles for American foreign policy. They have allowed differences over tactics to obscure potential agreement on strategic objectives. And they have not fought for a defense budget that would maintain American security and advance American interests in the new century.
We aim to change this. We aim to make the case and rally support for American global leadership.
As the 20th century draws to a close, the United States stands as the world's preeminent power. Having led the West to victory in the Cold War, America faces an opportunity and a challenge: Does the United States have the vision to build upon the achievements of past decades? Does the United States have the resolve to shape a new century favorable to American principles and interests?
We are in danger of squandering the opportunity and failing the challenge. We are living off the capital -- both the military investments and the foreign policy achievements -- built up by past administrations. Cuts in foreign affairs and defense spending, inattention to the tools of statecraft, and inconstant leadership are making it increasingly difficult to sustain American influence around the world. And the promise of short-term commercial benefits threatens to override strategic considerations. As a consequence, we are jeopardizing the nation's ability to meet present threats and to deal with potentially greater challenges that lie ahead.
We seem to have forgotten the essential elements of the Reagan Administration's success: a military that is strong and ready to meet both present and future challenges; a foreign policy that boldly and purposefully promotes American principles abroad; and national leadership that accepts the United States' global responsibilities.
Of course, the United States must be prudent in how it exercises its power. But we cannot safely avoid the responsibilities of global leadership or the costs that are associated with its exercise. America has a vital role in maintaining peace and security in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. If we shirk our responsibilities, we invite challenges to our fundamental interests. The history of the 20th century should have taught us that it is important to shape circumstances before crises emerge, and to meet threats before they become dire. The history of this century should have taught us to embrace the cause of American leadership.
Our aim is to remind Americans of these lessons and to draw their consequences for today. Here are four consequences:
• we need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out our global
responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future;
• we need to strengthen our ties to democratic allies and to challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values;
• we need to promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad;
• we need to accept responsibility for America's unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.
Such a Reaganite policy of military strength and moral clarity may not be fashionable today. But it is necessary if the United States is to build on the successes of this past century and to ensure our security and our greatness in the next.

You probably missed it in the rush of news last week
but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan
had published in a newspaper an offer of reward to anyone
who killed an American, any American.
So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the
following day to let everyone know what an
American is so they would know when they
found one.
TO KILL AN AMERICAN
"An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish,
German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An
American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African,
Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian,
Asian, Arab, Filipi, Pakistani, or Afghan.
An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.
An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or
Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in
America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.
An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that
he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to
armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history
of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God-given
right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.
An American is generous. Americans have helped out just
about every other nation in the world in their time of need,
never asking a thing in return.
When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years
ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the
people to win back their country! As of the morning of
September 11, Americans had given more than any other
nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the
best of everything...the best products, the best books, the
best music, the best food, the best services. But they also
welcome the least.
The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty,
welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse
of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed.
These in fact are the people who built America. Some of
them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of
September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families.
It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were
from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first
languages, including those that aided and abetted the
terrorists.
So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did.
So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and
other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so
you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are
not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who
holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Ok, so like,
I'm gonna do the Joel here now and say.........
CITES?
There is tons of bullshit everywhere. The least you can do is back up what you post like I do.
If there is anything I have learned from Joel is that when you post, having a site backup makes the thread move along quicker cause not many can rebut a legitimate organization such as the AP wire and the such.

The wife of a friend of mine currently serving in Iraq forwarded that piece to me.DVD Burner wrote: CITES?
She finds strength in patriotic, reassuring type messages, and frankly I am happy to indulge her,.. and despite some of my radical views about government and leadership, I do consider myself a patriotic individual, and I appreciate what is being said here as an American .
I posted it for it`s literary and sentimental value, and not really as a topic for analyzation or argument... maybe this was the wrong place to submit this, but it does include political thought...
I happen to agree with alot of what is said here, but, this being a free country, you may critique it as you see fit or as you have the time to expound your differing opinion...
I would not deny you your right to cry BS....

You are right I have the right to cry BS.
That was pretty funny though.
The Military has already and will continuously be brainwashed with BS.
It's their job to believe whatever their leaders tell them.
If you can though, it would be fabulous if you could send the PNAC "statement of principles" to as many of the soldiers as possible.
After all, it is a legitimate document signed by the leaders that sent them to this war.

A site that makes the claim it was written by the Australian Dentist.
what fact are you disputing DVD? all of them?
what statement made in the letter requires a cite?
what statement do find least factual?
you might get an answer if your query was more specific.
of course i must ask myself... why do i care?

Cheney's gunning down of an old man is a cover up full of lies.
1- Why the fuck is an old man of 70+ retriving down birds?
Does that make sense? IT's a cover up.
2- He was suppose to have been shot at 30 Yards. Ever try to kill a bird with quail shot at 30 yards. You can't even penetrate a brown bag and yet this guy had a pellet enter his chest?
3- is the vp going to be charged with hunting quail without a licence? No.
You try that and you'll lose your hunting privilege for three years and a thousand dollars.
And now you going to trust this admin with secret spying!

The Governator has an accident on his hog and requires stitches. The cops find out he didn't have a license and they could have charged him. But as the record shows they didn't. Why? Because any DA / prosecutor that had the balls right then to do it would have most likely found some serious cash flowing to his competitors during the next election cycle. So think about it. You're that Texas sheriff...you love your job. Are you going to push that the sitting Veep be charged? Uh, I don't think so.

Normally I'd agree with you Joel but considering Cheney's tendencies to cover things up....in this case there's a lot of smoke and I bet there's fire too. AZ may be on to something.

cheney settling an outstanding score for the RNC?
hardly... a bespeckled heart patient wheels around and shoots his hunting partner...
it doesn't seem so implausible to me...
if all y'all want to chase after DICK, feel free.
but if i were the loyal opposition, i'd be figuring out how to win a national election in '08, let alone congressional elections in '06.
carry on...

Some of us are already working on those '06 Congressional Elections. As for 08 after the impeachment proceedings are finished victory will be almost a certainty. I honestly expect shrub to face impeachment and for his administration to essentially self destruct....
