fire spinning

Post by OakTreeSpirit » Mon Mar 06, 2006 12:43 pm

Does anyone know of a place, in or around Denver, where a girl could take a fire spinning class?

I figured this might be a good place to ask. :D

Start here to teach yourself the basics. From there it's just a matter of working out transitions ,stylizing your spin, and making the moves your own.

I dunno, the learning curve is definitely sharper if you start out with fire, but you have a lot more incentive to learn quickly.

Okay, if you are naturally gracefull and motivated by pain avoidance--instead of flustered by it, take RG's suggestion. If you are timid, or clumsey, or wimpy take mine.

I'm already starting a to take a class. It was just that a friend of mine, who also wanted to learn fire spinning, could not take that class. It conflicted with her schedule. So, I was wondering if anyone else in the area knew of someone who was teaching.

There's something about learning fire spinning...or any type of body-oriented discipline online...that doesn't sit well with me. I want an actual teacher to watch me and tell me where I can improve. I have a hard time connecting written words to somatic learning.

I'm not starting with fire. I'm too much of a klutz...

I hear you. You might try seeing if there's a regional contact. (burningman.com to regionals page) or try on the regionals forum here to see if any of your homies know.

The written part of the lessons are, indeed, useless. Mostly because there's no consistent notation system. There are a bunch of little .gif animations there, though, that are quite useful. As I said, you can at least learn the basics that way.

You might want to inquire with the following fire performers located in colorado... They might teach, or if not they may know someone to refer you to:

Firemancer
Dreaming Phoenix
Crispy Family Carnival

Hi there fellow Denverite!

Once the weather warms up a bit more, there is a weekly firespinning gathering on Sunday evenings at Confluence Park (15th and Little Raven). I think it starts at sunset and goes for a couple hours. You would definitely be able to find folks to teach you there.

I also know a bunch of poi spinners myself and could possibly hook you up with somebody who could teach you the basics. Feel free to contact me if this sounds like something you'd be interested in. My email: [email protected]
