Question for the DJ's and other Music types.

Post by calsur » Sun Mar 07, 2004 11:18 pm

I have a problem I am hoping someone here to help me with.

I want to be able to burn individual tracks from my music CD's so I can make compilation CD's. Now, I am not going to sell the compilations and I already own the CD's so there should not be any copy right problems. I want to keep the originals safe at home while I take the copies out in my car or handheld or BM. What I would like to know is what software/hardware do I need to do this?

I have a good Dell computer with 512 memory and a screaming chip. I only have the basic Roxio software. No CD/DVD burner.

What should I do?

if you have no cd/dvd burner how do you want to put your tunes to cd? or are you looking to buy a burner? they are inexpensive. you can even buy burners used if your in s.f. for 15-35 bucks.

as for software "stomp" record now max from veritas is all I use. you can pull separate trax, do a direct copy and/or do a dj mix.
really simple interphase.

there is also "audiograbber"

and if you are using windows xp it comes with a more than adequate copy and burn application to suit your needs using media player 9.

As an addition, if you really want to get into it you may also want to try cooledit pro 2. 128 trax to mix with and has fx's to add to your sound. flanger/chours, reverb/echo, reverse.....on and on and on.

DVD Burner,

I want you to understand that I am a complete Newbe at this burning for audio tracks.

I understand I need a burner or would 2 be better? All I want to do is copy tracks from my existing CD's onto 1 dollar Staples CD's so if they get trashed I still have the original. Also I am not worried about concert quality sound. I have already lost about 15% of my hearing in the human voice range.

What I am really after is someone to tell me to buy a burner with these specs, get this software and this is how you do it.

If you can help me with this, Thank You.

Darn,

I said i was done for the evening but I just cant resist. Plus you've been really cool.

All you need is one cd burner. if you have a cd player in your computer already then you'll want to keep it in there. yes, you want a cd player and a burner in one computer. it makes things easier.

roxio is rather complicated......well, not all that easy to use although it will get the job done, most people I deal with really enjoy "Stomp".
in your case, you may want to use windows media player. it's a one time learn.
For example, if you right now open your media player in full mode you'll see to the left side a tool bar that has the option "copy from cd ." click that. the media window will change to show all tracks on the cd.
just check the tracks you want to copy.

at the top of the media player to the right there is an option that says "copy music". click that and it will start to copy. once finished your music will be in the "my documents" , "my music" folder. from there it's just your choice what program you want to use to burn your music to cd and your done.

If your here in S.F. I'll be more than happy to show you what you need and what to do in person.

anytime.

Thanks for the info.

A little history. What I am try to do here is get back to where I was. I use to copy compilation cassette tapes when I had tapes and (SHUDDER) LP's. Then CD's came along but I could still do a copy to tape. But last year I finally traded in my 1977 Toyota pickup (baby shit green and the only thing holding the dents together was the rust but I could fix everything on this truck but paint and smog check).

Then, then I discovered the fatal flaw with my new Forester. Understand I love that it has air conditioning, and a heater that works, and wind shield wipers and door locks and side windows that work, oh, I am drifting off post.

So the fatal flaw on the Forester is that it has a CD player and unless I want to put my originals in jeopardy, I have to listen to 28 minutes of adds an hour.

Thank You for letting me get back to where I was.
