i have lived in Winnemucca every summer for 7 years now. Right now the playa is a shallow lake (most of it anyways) 1-3 inches deep. When Andy Green blasted across that fucker at 700+ mph the heavy equipment they had, left ruts a foot deep. They were gone with the next rainy season.
every year the Playa gets a good drenching and just like the beach levels itself out, heals itself and is ready for more abuse. I believe that the Playa is the perfect place for recreational use like BM. In the words of one of the environmental scientists that performed one of the many EIS statements
"the black rock is home to no flora or native fauna, represents no historical, geological, native or commercial use ..." i am sure I butchered his quote but the meaning is there.
Theres nothing out there!!!!, in my opinion it should never be a wilderness area.
anywho thats my 2 cents -
later all.
