I got the sex letter last time my camp did the mud pit thing, in '98. Policy & procedures may be slightly different, but it all boils down to what appears on the ticket & the Survival Guide wrt comporting oneself in accordance with the law, with special attention to environments that might possibly lead to unsafe or illegal situations.spectabillis wrote:i didn't even know there was such a proceedure and letter, be interested in seeing a copy as well as knowing the history behind it being done.Bob wrote:Clarifying: So, though they send out the "sex letter" to camps they think might attract risky behavior....

the child issue has always been there, and after seeing how people are responding to sex camps lately i guess being over18 is a strong possiblity. the fuck if i have any good ideas around that one, so i guess i am just another whiner.

and thats my personal issue with having to address people's sensibilities and issues. yes, they are important, but it works both ways in that when you start making more and more changes, proceedures, rules... it takes from that attraction and slowly turns it into something you can buy off a wallmart shelf, or watch on the discovery channel.Chai Guy wrote:Remember when "unsafe" was part of the attraction of being there?
Yeah, like the 80 foot Steel Man falling over like chopped timber in the middle of Gigsville?Chai Guy wrote:Remember when "unsafe" was part of the attraction of being there?
But wait... Wasn't that was last year?
Or are you reminiscing of the more "Mad Max"-like days of old, art car races, art car jousting, drive-by shooting range and such?
That is what reagonal burn events are for.

Not what I was expressing at all -- that things don't seem much different from my experience in '98. Granted, rote routine, bureaucracy & look-alike camps are in the eye of the beholder.spectabillis wrote:and thats my personal issue with having to address people's sensibilities and issues. yes, they are important, but it works both ways in that when you start making more and more changes, proceedures, rules... it takes from that attraction and slowly turns it into something you can buy off a wallmart shelf, or watch on the discovery channel.Chai Guy wrote:Remember when "unsafe" was part of the attraction of being there?

Welllll, the utah burn got a dmv for this year ... but we do have rumors of renegades out in the west desert who don't care for the new batch of rules. Our regional reached enough mass to draw official utah attention and require county permits. That is what reagonal burn events are for.
Does utah burn have sex camps? Of some kind, most likely discreet, but I didn't ask.

Ha! Don't listen to this one. Just rumors! A huge anti-sex camp
The last year, I had no sex on the Playa.
Before the event, in my normal life, very far away from here, I was an erotic experiency maker. Normal sex sucks. And of course I was figuring out an explosion of erotic experiency in BM.
On the playa, I didn't find those mythical Sex Camps. But worst, after a short while I didn't felt a need of sex anymore.
Whatever, the first tuesday I noticed something in the shedule : This is the international orax sex day ! Enjoy !
What's a good idea. My libido sucks, no way. I took my bike, went next to the playa, I saw a beautiful girl. I decided to stop her, and ask : Hi, this is the International oral sex day, do you need something ?
What is the result ? A smile and a sweet : "no thanks, but I'm sure you'll find..."
So, my bike, around the playa, far away from my tent, and see a girl, cool girl walking alone...decide to stop her, and ask : Eh, this is....
What is the result ? "No I'm sorry...But I'm sure you'll find..."
I don't know why, but I suddenly felt tired...exausted. I decided to go back to my tent, and have a sleep. I slept one hour. And finally decided to try again. This is the International Oral Sex Day or not ? So, once more. My bike...No, everything stopped over ici.
Because as I was going out of my tent, I saw the second girl. Walking around. She was coming from a tent close to mine. Hell ! She's my closest neighbour in my owwwwn camp ?
Ashame ? Not really...We had a laugh, we had a beer. And she became after a few days, my best friend out of my country. The last day, before flying we slept in the same bed at the Hotel. Like a brother and a sister. Any desire, just love and friendship for her.
Finally, after Burning Man I didn't really need sex for several months. Awesome. Me ? An erotic cycle experiency was over. It sounds, for me, that BM is like a homeostatic sex installation, a huge tuning machine for body energy.
A huge anti-sex camp. Sooo interesting.

My first burn was in 2001 and I attended pretty much every burn since (had to miss last year for grad school orientation). Thinking back, pretty much every year I went to some sort of "sex camp". Canadian Beaver eating, a swing camp (a camp that was trying to sell sex swings which you of course couldn't purchase on the playa but could try(left pretty quickly)), some persons random swing event and some other stuff. I went to these camps and events because it is one thing among many that I like about Burning Man. The fact that the normal mores of sexuality are different at the event combined with the almost hippy free love idea is pretty unique in my normal life. That freedom and diversity is exactly what brings many people back to the event every year. I go to sex camps as a part of a whole experience and I believe that most people who are welcomed are doing the same thing. That is why I, as someone who attends these events, object to the characterizations of these camps and the people that participate. Some are sleazy, some are not what they advertise, some are over the top and some are a great addition to the overall experience of Burning Man. I wouldn't say this is any different from any other camp or expeience at Burning Man.
As for real advice on where to go, I'm afraid I can't offer any other then you need a partner. I have been going with my wife since 2001 and we have had no trouble finding like minded camps. However, they would not let any single men in. This is true in the outside swinger world as well as Burning Man. Though I consider myself semi bi (straight but with the occasional alternative), I agree with this regulation because men can at times be a little overwhelming in the way they singlemindedly pursue what they believe is a right because they are at an event. Once you get in, there is still usually a "Hi my name is..." getting to know you period before deciding to do anything and men and especially single men often forget this and act disrespectfully. The general rule at these events is ask first. When you have someone touch you without asking at anytime it gets really uncomfortable and not the pleasurable experience it is meant to be. I won't go into any details but this happened at the last event I went to at Burning Man. So, get a partner (best if it is a real partner that shares your interest rather then attending at all if the choice is someone you just met, in my opinion) read the catalogue and talk to people on the playa. At pretty much every event single men are just not allowed.
I hope this gave you an honest answer to an honest question.

Expectations
I'm a real OLD TIMER (going since 96) and I've learned a thing or two since...
If you go with expectations (sex) you will most likely be disappointed.
Some of the best times I've had (sex-wise) were when I simply opened up to the possibilities and went with the flow. Being bi, my chances were doubled.
The worst times I've had were when went with pre-conxieved notions and allowed myself to be lead around by my penis.
If you're thinking you'll be able to go to a particular camp and find yourself in the middle of a full-blown orgy.....Probably not. But you never know
There is ALWAYS the possibility that you'll meet like-minded individual(s) at the event.
That's my 2 cents worth

I am not just asking to be a pervert, but because i am really interested.
I have heard that this is a part of burning man but like i said realiable information is hard to come by.
Create your own sex camp if that's what you want.
