Perfect RV for the playa

See http://future.iftf.org/2006/04/reconfigurable_.html for the article. Note that it's GMC and it's a concept 'truck' for Los Angeles, but this looks perfect for the playa. Note the foldaway bike in the model's hand.

Is that a StormTrooper in the nose? http://www.studiocreations.com/howto/armorforsale.html

Maybe it's me but it looks like a cross between a caterpillar and the Space Shuttle.

Sorry...it's ugly...even for an RV.
What's inside?

Edit: Okay, read up a little, I like the concept of humans returning to a migratory/nomadic lifestyle. We started out that way, settled life is unnatural to us. GM's hearts are in the right place, and I expect this vehicle would have solar panels and ethanol fuel capability. That would be nice.

It still looks like a caterpillar crossed with the Space Shuttle, though...

Now if the would just replace those wheels with something like this, they would be so there!

I went hunting- this site: http://www.laautoshow.com/2006/designla/popGmc.html has better images of it, including the interior.

Interesting- but I would want a little less transparent areas in my home, I think. Not really a "glass house" kinda guy, pesonally. Love the concept though!

:->
I think there's be a clearance problem between the two rear axles, though.

No showers or commode noticable in the interior shots - a bit *too* playa-ish for me. It's cure as a concept but seems a little impractical as a real working vehicle...

Mildly off-topic...I just picked up the Trailer o' the Godz™. It's a 16' horse trailer with a custom tack room. 110 volt electrical system, 20-gallon tank with pump and hose bib, damn powerful intake/exhaust fan with two speeds, cedar floor and paneling in the tack room, which is large enough to sleep two 6' adults, stereo, and I'll be adding a solar panel, roll-out canopy and a dorm-sized propane-powered fridge. For all intents and purposes, it's a bumper-pull with the living capability of a gooseneck; or maybe a small toy-hauler built with horses in mind.

Yes, I'm bringing it to the Playa, will probably use it as a windbreak, power supply and waterhouse; with the canopy, it could even function as a chuck wagon. I guesstimate it's big enough to fit the whole camp infrastructure in it, move everything in one pull.

The other day I hit on an idea: mount a single-wide prefab house, the "fishing cottage" type, on a semi truck bed. Include a roof of solar shingles, a propane tank, outfit it with an Incinolet and two water tanks and you'd have the literal comforts of home! You'd probably still come out ahead of the leisure coaches, too...

Hey, we've been considering the "house on a flatbed" thing for years. Larry keeps seeing modular cabins, I keep seeing log cabin RVs, gotta find a picture.

The Trailer sound fantastic.
