Anyone know the % of actual users currently registering vs. the % of socks? I'm guessing it's somewhere around 70 to 30 in favor of socks, but I'm not very good at math.

got these, plus about a dozen more that have registered over the last couple of days.

what do you guys think of this... since we're still "supporting" these spammers by posting their profiles with website links in them, i'd like to start deleting the posts you guys have made for the user IDs i've deleted. this will also help me to figure out if i've cleaned most of them out or not.

this won't be a project i start this weekend (too much going on with a full schedule at the store and our first big tradeshow to go to) but i wanted to run it by you all to see if you feel like we need to keep these in this list as an archive or if it's ok to start doing a little cleanup.

lemme know.

the thread-cleanup process has begun! thanks you guys. posting only the names is a great idea... joined date is helpful too but not required. thanks!!

man... those initial huge lists of socks K4 posted are satisfying to check and delete. so far i've only missed 2 of those!

but... my time to do this today runs low. thanks for all your help folks and keep the names coming! i might not get back to this until after the weekend, but i will keep on plugging until we can get the visual verify mods installed.

I think this one was started to list the names of the spammers (i.e. spambots), the other was started as a discussion of actual people using more than one id (i.e. socks). I could be wrong though.

ETA: Yep, that's the situation. Emily, could you let me know when you get all the sock info you need from the sockpuppets thread, so I can delete those missplaced posts? I think what happened is the "alfridicko" cat posted on there, bumped it to the top and then people mistook that thread for this one. Thanks!

sorry! the party won't be today! i don't have any more time today to cull through all the lists. just too much to do for my business and the show we're going to this weekend. as i go through all of the sock puppet lists to verify that i've squished them alll (mwahahaha)... then we can delete the extraneous ones and only have one sock puppet thread.

you might be interested to know that since 4/7 68 new accounts were registered.

of these
- 9 were .ru commerce links
- 15 of these were .info commerce links
- 20 of these were also removed because they had spam, link farm or commerce links in their profiles

edited to delete website link but preserve discussion.

My feeling is this (having once subversively supporting a band by the name of "Hockaloogie" >not joking<)...

It's still advertising, which is commerce, ergo not permitted. A band (and an artist, and a porn director, and a seller of cheap cellphones, etc.) will go to any length to give their **BUSINESS** an edge (emphasis deliberate). Whether it's a band or a porn distributor, it's still a no-no.

I have (shame on me!) opened a lot of these links (incl. the pam anderson one) to see what they are before I report them (in this case it was reported before I could...)

Think of it this way. If they are legit they will contact you. Just like those who already have. If they're into abusing the "generosity"of Burning Man by breaking their rules as an ad and hit ploy, they won't contact you for ploinking them.

Even IF they're a band... they're no dif than any other business. Hell, pamela_anderson_69 (or whatever) is just as much arts as hockaloogie - just dif. media.

More later, but this is how I look at it.

Another example where links are being created by complaing about them! This whole thread needs to be worked over...
