Why?
Because they sell them in the supermarket.

what about heavy, boned, dark and almost leathery wings that feel bloodwarm to the touch and flex on their own? I'd have to say that That would be pretty cool.. supermarket feather-sticks are of no importance..

Okay. Anything lighted or on fire is cool. As far as the leater ones, the jury is still out. Costume shops have something very similar unfortunately. But if they flap on their own and can make you fly, then their totally kool.

The last time I checked the arbitrator of coolness position did not exist. Therefore since no one is available to determine what is cool or not, in 2004 I will wear my wings. My magnificent 5-6 foot wide el-wire lit, shimmering irridescent wings that can't be found in any halloween store.

I love my wings.

I think wings are cool too. I only wish I could get those boys & girls in Genitic Engineering camp to hurry up with the Hawk-human genome....I'd be first in line!
In the mean time, I'll keep wearing the same ol' tired elwire creations I love so well.

Heh you must be joking. If I tried to belly dance at all, my chiropractor would need a week to straighten me out. Especially with the casts on both legs after falling from the stage, cords wrapped around my knees right above the pants that would surely have fallen down.

Nope, I'll leave that to the professionals, or at least to the species' more graceful half.

Sure, at BurningMan and playa events wings are all played out. But try going to the bank or supermarket wearing your flight appendages and the entertainment will begin.

In fact, I encourage everyone to wear wings and other playa-wear at mundane default world locations at least once a week.

We have to keep them on their toes

Christinaannlanders is absolutely right...I was on my way home from the SF Decom, checking my stuff thru security and I had both hands full couldn't carry my wings. So I slipped em on as I went thru check in at the airport, waiting for my baggage and generally as long as possible. Felt fine I tell you. And the smiles they created with the muggles...worth any hassle the security people threw at me!

If they look at you funny, tell 'em the wings are a safety measure, and much lighter than a parachute.
