Hello all - my name is Darin. I have known of Burning Man for as long as I can remember, but only recently talked to a few friends who have been in the past.
I will be attending this year with a few other first timers as well. I currently live in Astoria, Oregon, and the majority of the people I am travelling with are coming from Miami, FL.
I'm extremely easy going, have a sense of adventure, and am looking forward to meeting lots of great people.
I hope I'm not breaking any rules by doing this (and if I am let me know so I can take the link down) but if you would like to see who I am and read more about me, visit me at www.myspace.com/ringmasterdarin
:)

Hey!
I'm Akashla, and i am going to burning man for the first time this year.
I'm not sure how i get there or what to do when i do, but thats not a problem. It's all part of the adventure...
Im coming from Ireland, so its a long way to go, and i think i'll be relying on the helpfulness of strangers to actually get to the camp, because i can't seem to find out if you can get public transport, and i have none of my own, apart from my feet, and my geographical knowledge is shameful, i dont even know which airport to fly in to, so i'm likely to head in the wrong direction... but i'm optimistic...
I'm pretty bad at introductions, i dont know what you want to know, i like to read and to write, like to paint and create, like to smile and to talk, like to be quiet and to dream...
i still dont like introductions, but i'll get over it.

Those that do not hear the music think the dancers mad.
Hello Akashla,
Welcome to E-playa, First off you need to read every thing on the main burning man page , the survival guide and so on , it will give you important information about what your getting yourself into. Next there are a number of people who have come from Ireland in the past and are likely coming this year you can get in touch with them through the regional link to your area. They should be able to help you with logistic planning and good information about what worked for them and what you should avoid.
And finally read these threads and participate in the discussions and banter , make some friends, the event attracts a lot of great people and knowing people on the playa makes the event more fun.

Hi, my name is Christa (spelled Xta with my friends and non-professional work relationship).. I'm a virgin burner this year, and am one of the folk trying to gather solo virgins-with-vaginas (and possibly veterans, too, we're still hashing out details!) in V Camp!
Uhm... I'm slowly becoming a professional hooper (am typing this with asymmestrical face makeup on, as my roomies and I spent some time this eve trying out looks for a gig I have in a couple days), and also play and ref waterpolo, teach lifeguarding and knitting, design and sell knitting patterns.. and a whole bunch of other little things for fun and minor amounts of profit :)
I am utterly excited about having my face hurt from laughing or smiling too hard for the entirety of the event.... see you there! Oh, and I bought my ticket yesterday, wooo!
X.

Hi Xta! What a fun idea for a camp! and ambitious too. Perhaps the X stands for xtraordinary!? Anyway, greetings! My advice to all burners and especially new burners is to go up as early in the week as you can so you can watch the city grow, and also take it real easy on your first day. Limit work, booze and drugs and go to bed early. The best thing to do on your first day is, believe it or not, be a spectator. The altitude and dryness demand a day for transition, and if you don't respect that, it will be several days before you feel normal physically. Then on the second day and for the rest of the week, go wild!
go V!
go V!

Halloo all.
My name is Annalisa and I'm originally from Trinidad but I now live in Antigua (both islands in the Caribbean)
I'm very interested in Burning Man for many reasons, one being that where I am from, real expression is limited.
I am really considering going to Burning Man this year...I'm kind of frightened of the things I might find in myself but I feel that it will all become part of the thrill...
I'm a self taught artist and a singer...I mess with photography and I like to tell myself that I am a good dancer :p
Right now...I am at work...doing graveyard shift...doing 'work' as you can see by my post :)
I'm excited to meet you all and hope you'll enjoy meeting me as well!
Ciao!

Hello everyone, my name is Jesse Leidenfrost.
Currently a waiter at the Olive Garden, I enjoy listening to Jazz, Techno (Vocal, Ambient, Trance), and some Rock as well.
For the most part am pretty laid back, except when it comes time to party with friends or complete strangers 8)
Ever since I saw video footage of the Burning Man event I was instantly hooked, Ive probably seen every publicly available video of the event and tons of pictures of it too and have been wanting to go since I knew of its existance.
Have been trying to attend these last few years but things like money troubles and things like that have gotten in the way and Ive been forced to not attend.
Hopefully this year will turn out much better, as I have been saving and planning to go for it this year and might even take along a few of my buddies if they get their acts together.
If any of you from Florida could give me some helpful advice for making the pilgrimage this year, it would be most appreciated, and I look forward to meeting you all at the event this year :)

Transylvania BM newbies
hello :)
Im Styx from Transylvania in Romania! you can find out about me on http://people.tribe.net/styx
me and my girlfriend would really like to do this experience this year and safe money to make it over there. We never been to US at all and my girlfriend has no desertexperience yet. But we are artists and play tribal arabic and indian grooves and also myself i play various styles of psytrance.
we could also help in setup and artprojects.
our only worrie is the moneyproblem as we in romania as u maybe know have different kinda money and value of money. so for us its gonna cost a fortune just the flights, travel and food etc.. so we are trying to safe where it is possible and rather do things and work instead...
can anyone tell me if its possible to get free ticket for us or maybe at least reduced price?
i unfortunatly depends on stuff like this for us in order to just hit the road.
people here get 100-300 euro a month for hard work.. quite a joke...
anyway.. hope im not offtopic with my introduction.. if so im really sorry..
we hope to make it this year!!!

Welcome Styx,
You might want to check with the Black Rock Burner Hostel
http://www.blackrockburnerhostel.com
I'm not sure if they'll be running again this year, but it's worth a check.

Hi! My name is Randi and I have yet to go to a Burning Man. I can't wait. I sadly wont be able to go this year...and possibly same w/ next year (b/c sadly I'm a poor college student).
I'm actually currently doing a "research" project on burning man for my 3D art class and we're supposed to "design our own theme camps" which I'm really excited about, so I figured I'd join the forums so if I have any questions I can ask people :]

Hi!
Another BM virgin here!
A friend went 5 years ago or so and had an amazing time, and I never forgot his excitement for it. Last year, several close friends went and also had an amazing experience. And now I'm gonna jump in and do it!
I live in NYC and don't have a car, so I'm a little intimidated by all the planning I'm going to need to do to get myself to the Playa, but I think that'll be a very satisfying process. (My current thinking is to fly to Reno and rent a car [SUV? Minivan? How much room will I need?].)
I have so many questions. Luckily, I am aquainted with a woman here in the area who has been going for a long time and can give me advice when I need it.
I love to sew, and I'm really looking forward to making my own clothes for the event. That will be an awesome self-expression for me. I've also always dreamed of some more extensive body art, and I'm starting to think about some temporary art I can do for that. So many ideas!
Anyway, it's all the planning right now that has me nervous, but I think once I start getting into it, it'll all come together!
Yay! I'm going to Burning Man!
See you there!
Love,
Caryn
