Fishy and XtaG - are you guys interested in spending a couple of hours in the Bar putting together the pieces of the NEB? We could have a sewing bee, complete with kick ass hors d'ordurves. (And Pago Pago Octopi!) Oooo - we could do some iron-on photo transfers with people's avatars - Oooo - we could do slogans and fabric paint and, and, and,.........

Um--I knit but only kinda sew. (In fact I went through a period where I paper mached cloth onto things because I couldn't sew it.) Well, I can do a simple stitch, but not quickly (is someone bringing a sewing machine? would it even help on sweatshirt material?)

I think "kinda" sewing is more than adequate. Even if some seams are the hole punch and dental floss variety, all the more artistic in the long run. I think if we bring pieces ready to be joined together, we can even be moderately hammered during fabrication and still have a fun, useable patchwork NEB. Could even be an ongoing thing as members drift in, they could add articles of their clothing, their state flag, underwear from a panty raid, etc...

I'm thinking we don't need a sewing machine - I can bring big upholstery and quilting needles for thicker stuff, fabric glue, etc....can keep a box of thread, needles, scissors, etc behind the bar for additions outside the sewing bee. E-playans could bring something to be added - their own tie-dye, gang colors, etc...

Heh, Mojo you're waaaay more hyper about this than I am :)

I wasn't planning to sit down for hours and make it all in one go (Virgin burner here, planning nothing much other than having starry eyes and a huge smile while I run around as Look and Point Xta)... rather figured on putting pieces together whenever I was hanging out at the bar (love keeping my hands busy) and having supplies there for other people to do so as well...

For the actual sewing-together, I pictured a really big, chunky, EASY whipstitch done with yarn and fat tapestry needles that will go through the sweatshirt material and be strong enough that a few stitches can still hold up to strain... Google whipstich to see what it is (I was gonna post a link, but the last time I tried, there was something Flash on the page that crashed my Explorer, so I'm sticking to safe sites only now!)

Embellishment is totally cool, for those people who get excited doing it.. I'm more into the funky "Hey, look! This block still has the arms attached! I can wear the whole blanket and still play cards!" design aspect :)

My roomie's gf went last year, and thought it would be nifty if we wore the blanket and took it out for a walk to attract more blanket beings :)

Sounds like we're thinking along the same lines basically. I'll bring sewing supplies and a plastic box for them - along with pieces for the NEB. Anyone else who wants to bring some of the same are welcome. And I'll sponsor munchies for the sewing bee.

WOW, Mojo, Crypto, X, the sewing b sounds like it's coming along. I'll do whatever i can to help, but again hole punching and dental floss is about as good as it gets fo me (take a look at the dress I made on my Tribe picture thingy). I can however serve you drinks and make treats to eat, give shoulder massages, etc. Or I'll just pick up a needle and give it a go.
