Why do we need moderators?

Post by aforceforgood » Fri Oct 17, 2003 12:46 am

Seriously, why? I'm not saying we don't, or do, I just think this topic should be thrashed out before the eplaya is changed again without input, and maybe for the worse. Maybe for the better. I don't know.

What does a moderator do anyways, that each person couldn't do themselves? Like ignore or scroll past threads they don't want to see?

I'm not sure whether it's other's similar bafflement at what a moderator's supposed to "fix" or add to this board, or whether the people still frequenting this board just don't care about the wieghtier issues of where this board is heading that has resulted in zero posts in the 2 days this subject has been up. So if you're as baffled as I am as to what a moderator adds to the mix, please post that.

Also of note; there's an eplaya summit meeting on monday that I can't find any details on using the "search" feature (can we please tear down some of the walls in this place? Or are we supposed to all sit in our little cubicles and phone each person individually in order to find out what's going on? That's what it feels like on this eplaya.).

Anyone got any details on this, or maybe even just the conference call #? I'd like to hear the tone of this even if I weren't able to contribute to see whether our suggestions are doing any good.

affg, I think the details went out in personal mail, and were not posted here. Perhaps I'm wrong though and someone can provide a url that contains the details.

Well, it hasn't shown up in my email- I can understand if they wanted to not just throw open the doors to all 30k people who technically might show up, but realistically, I doubt that would be the case. This thread's been here for 2 days, had 25 or so views and no posts.

I'm troubled by the we know what's best for you attitude- especially in light of the predictions made by the Old Hats in the "the new BBS look thread" that have largely come true.

If I'm not welcome at the summit, I'd at least be gratified to know that someone has reread that thread and will raise those issues at the meeting.

No... about what?

I'd be willing to bet those not on the web team interested in attending the summit, even if it were only as an observer, maybe via conference call without the ability to comment, would number less than a hundred. Heck, I'd bet less than fifty.

Honestly, from what I've seen here, I think they'd barely break 10 inquiries if they did post an invitation.

And conference calls can accomodate all 30k if it came to that.

Well, I just think the fact that of the 50+ people who've seen this, apparently only 6% care enough about where this board's going to post is sad.

2%. I've started going to eplayans.net before I check the eplaya anymore. This board lost it's fire...it's not half as interesting as it was. The content level dropped, the core group moved, and Unjon and some of the others post good stuff but it's not enough to hold my interest like it did. ...it's a great time killer but the games on my Verizon Wireless phone offer more appeal than the eplaya lately. And that's bad.

I think you maybe right to a certain extent.
I think this BBS has a feel of the old DNA and Pradise Lounge crowd.

Something about it. I think it just needs some time to grow. Nice that Harriet has the OH's but this BBs i feel is gonna pop next year.

I know that does not sound comforting but it's just my spin on it.

BUMP>>>Nostalgia Flashback!

...and speaking OF "F"...

Count every " F" in the following text:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...

(SEE BELOW)

HOW MANY

WRONG, THERE ARE 6 -- no joke.
READ IT AGAIN !
Really, go Back and Try to find the 6 F's before you scroll down.

The reasoning behind is further down.

The brain ca nnot process "OF".

Incredible or what? Go back and look again!!

Anyone who counts all 6 "F's" on the first go is a genius.

Three is normal, four is quite rare.

What is eplayans.net?
I've never heard of it and my search engine can't find it.

Probably not a registered domain. Give it time though. Someone is bound to snag it.

eplayans.net was Harriet's board, sometimes referred to as the "hplaya"

3playa was launched shortly thereafter and eplayans.net dried up.

A BBS needs a moderator so some jerk doesnt come by and post something VERY illegal and get the whole thing shut down. Aside from that its nice to have someone nuke retarded posts selling viagra. I think alot of people got chased away recently because they were spending too much time on here and wound up bickering too much. They may be back after a cooling off period, which would be nice.

thats my guess, they usually do. its also why despite being asked to delete an account em's mentioned the option they could be deactivated instead. deleting cant be reversed and puts the posts as "guest".
