1st Annual Intergalactic Away Mission

Post by Rabbi Dali Rick » Wed Apr 12, 2006 8:06 am

Greetings fellow Burners. I am hosting an event in the Redrock Desert in Southern California, one and a half hours outside of LA above California City, on a 40 acre piece of private property the week of the 4th of July (Sunday to Sunday). Think of it as Burning Geeks blowing up stuff. The dates are July the 1st thru the 9th. Here is the website. Lots of tweeking left on the website and it's contents, but the tempory site is up, so think of yourselves as early adopters.

Event Update 1.01

Post by Rabbi Dali Rick » Mon May 01, 2006 8:28 pm

Just got back from the Ranch Tuesday. We towed the RV I bought to use as a base camp. I bought it cheap because the engine was blown but I didn't want an engine anyway, it's sitting where it will sit until I'm through with it. The previous owner had just gotten everything serviced and checked including the aircondition. They always dry camped at KOA sites, so the bathroom was never used. The water and propane tanks were full, the grey and dark tanks were already empty. I just set up a porto-potty on the site, and they will service the RV as well. I just recieved Direct-TV for the RV this morning and set up the appointment for next Tuesday to install the Satellite Internet.

Here is a small clip of the RV and the Location:

Rabbi, looks like you are doing this gig in my back yard! I would have to guess intersection of hwy 14 and Garlock road? Count on me to cross the road and join you. If logistical support is needed in the local area I might be able to lend a hand. PM me if you need Hunter

RDR: Welcome to Africa!

Dougly like cave. Ugh.

Any plans for that pesky sagebrush. You plan to take a weedeater to it, or let the crowds trample it flat?

Rebbi, enjoyed your ranch! 1> have you named it yet? 2. I see a great celebration in July on this spread.

3. I lived half my life within 22.5 miles of the "Rabbi Ranch" and never put it together with the similarity to the Black rock desert! It's amazing you have a great playa right across the road, nice high desert mountain ranges on your front & back, small hwy access. I see Burning man south in your future!

If you live in L.A. San Diego or anywhere south of Fresno You best mark your calender for "the Intergalactic Away Mission" It will be hotter than the Black Rock that time a year but if you want a true test run of your Burning man set up THIS WILL BE THE BOMB !!! Damn Black rock city ex-stream! no LEO's hotter temps, warm nights, less dust (but we can fix that)

I plan on setting up my camp right by the cave! (if thats OK with Rebbi) it'll make a great wine cellar!

How can a place called Red Rock City not love Cowgirls, Ms G? Hey Hunter, it's Saturday noon, and we are getting ready to head that way in about an hour, for an overnight stay. If you're around stop on by or call me on my cell.

How intimately are you married to a sci-fi theme?

Another Day on the desert! Today was a great day, the planing is in gear for the most extreme desert camp/art/party event to ever be held in southern Ca.

The challenge is Can you handle the most extreme environment in the US? mid summer heat, beautiful nights incredible art and self reliance to the max.

Can you handle the challenge? the question on another thread "How to make Burning man more dangerous? Here it is the real thing, like the old days , put up or shut up! The Rabbi Dali Rick has put the wheels in motion, the land is secured, Jots on their way,

Blow things up. driving while shooting, no $200 ticket, radical self reliance!

Don't Bogart That Joint My Friend....

Post by Rabbi Dali Rick » Mon May 08, 2006 12:57 am

Only Loosely, the event has taken on a life of it's own, an become somewhat of an eclectic character. Why, what did you have in mind?

As I get deeper and deeper into the meat of the event, it has leveled off to something along the lines of the first few days are about a thousand or so close friends and aquaitances getting out there enjoying the desert having some really cool siminars on various subjects (the website is misleading at this point). The overall event (who, when, and where) has basically not changed. I was going to charge an entrance fee, but that didn't feel right did I mention a thousand or so "friends", so I just don't feel comfortable inviting my friends and then charging them so the week-long camping part is most likely going to be free, and the siminars, and stages will require the fee. A promoter signed on for the fourth of july concert part, and plans a 10 year reunion of some world famous DJ's whom I don't have there names yet, but as soon as I do it will be posted, so it promises to be a landmark musical event.

You could spend days just walking around out there. The Caves, the Dry Lake bed, the Scorpion Springs swimming hole, a half a days hike, hidden and way up in the canyons (I have only heard of this mystical lake, when I head back this weekend maybe I can make the journey up), Schmit Mine, a handcarved tunnel through a mountain of solid rock that took him 35 years, The Fire Opal Mines, Wild west towns, Hell the rocks at your feet have such an amazing variety of pink, red, green, purple, orange, and rose crystal quartz, you find yourself with pockets full of them every night. I just left from out there tonight and let me tell you I can't wait to move out there permanently, I hated to leave. Today I met my closest neighbor who lives 1/2 mile away and we bonded immediatly, I think he's an undiscovered burner, his yard is full of new Construction vehicles Dump Trucks, Catepiller Earth Movers and Levelers and such, like he's ready to build a city or something, actually he retired and keep the toys he said. His beautiful wife and he have offered to put in a 300 gallon water system for our compound, and fill the tank from his well, I walked away feeling more like family than neighbors.

And let's not forget Hunter S, the one and only, who's house warming gift of a bottle of congac help beat the morning blas and we hung out for hours

Did I mention there is talk of a Drive by Shooting Range.... (you can shoot guns out there [safely of course])

Got drug back into the city tonight to prep a truck and camera in the morning for a Film shoot that will last until Thursday in Palm Springs, should be fun.

The website makes it sound like an open-air sci-fi convention.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Ugly Dougly, having met the Rabbi & shared a few conacs with him I gleamed from some of his vision that your at least half right! A meld of si-fi and burning man with a dash of open minded meditation & music.

You have to see the creative juices pour from his lips to really understand his vision. Frank a close friend of Rabbi and a writer that shares the love of the Red Rock Desert wanders out into the desert filling his head with the scrip for the next si-fi film. Rabbi wanders out and in a place so remote of human life, finds new friend. It's a place with an energy & inviting romance that calls you out and leads you deeper into a new adventure.

As I drove home from Red Rock the thoughts came to me of how I can procure a half dozen old Steele bath tub, trans port them up on to the bluffs & pump water to them. Imagine sitting in a cool bath on a bluff over looking the Playa in 114 degree heat! with alien's dancing on the desert floor below you!

This is a very do-able project for The 1st Inter-galactic get away. Leaving no trace & taking it away when its over....humm got go back out and survey the placement opportunities
