bm baby needs a name

my husband and i got married at last years burn, and are going to miss this years burn because we are expecting our first bebe, and my due date is so near the burn that it is pretty much keeping us homebound this year. i am looking for (real) suggestions for names for a baby who was brough into this world as a result of a burning union. any original, spiritual, or ethnic name with meaning welcome-- ir just a name that you heard or saw somewhere that is waiting to be given to a child(boy or girl)! please help, we are so overwhelmed, but really want to bless this child with a great name!

I don't have any specific suggestions but if one wants to learn more about any names that might appear here, I recommend this site to check them out.

I've used that site to help pick out a baby name for a family member and when I created sock puppet accounts I used it to screen the names. I boned the old lady at about 3:00 and Fetish last year but she didn't get knocked up. Guess we got lucky. We were tossed between naming the thing Three O'clock or Fetish. Even more lucky it wasn't the year before when we were hang'n out on Uranus.

Whatever you choose, please spell it correctly and not cutely. Stand at your backdoor and yell it repeatedly like you're calling your child. Does it still sound good the tenth time? Ask random strangers to read it written down. Can they pronounce it or do you have to explain the name over and over again? See how many absurd things it rhymes with as kids can be cruel. Can you live with the nicknames derived from it?

If you still like the name after all that, go for it!

Sorry, I used to substitute teach and some parents should be whacked upside the head. I can't talk too much though, I have family named Sunshine Castle ... and Heavenly Sunshine ... and October Sunshine ... and Sandy Stone. Mom wanted to name me Sandy, but she backed off; my maiden name is Castle.

One niece is named Divya, means divine in Hindu I think. Very nice name.

I just called her on the phone and asked her if she remembered when I boned her on Fetish and she said I am dirty man and wanted to know what time I will be home from work tonight because she misses me.

Communication manifests in many forms that should only be interoperated by the persons directly involved. Not everyone interprets "being boned" as something disrespectful or shameful.

hubby and i both worked in a lab at a small hospital in michigan before moving to sin city. we got all the bloodwork for newborns, which was either tested onsite or sent on the the state lab. we saw all the names that people came up with for their new babies.

when we left, we were up to 9 different spellings of the name "Cheyenne".

we had a baby girl born who was named "summer rain." EVERY woman in the lab made comments about it, very similar to my own, which was "what's her last name- massengill?"

we had a little boy born who was given the first name "draco". i understand, maybe it was cultural or a family name, but PLEASE!!!! think about it!!! how many kids are going to beat the little guy up because of his name??

hubby and his boss finally decided that there should be a state baby name bureau. you should have to submit your baby name the to bureau. the bureau will decide if the name will cause your child to get beaten up by his/her peers on the playground for the next 12 years. will your chosen name, when called at the park, will cause 17 little boys and girls to all turn their heads simultaneously and say "yes, mom?" if the answer is "yes", the bureau will reject your name application, and send it back with one of 2 stamps on it - "john" or "mary". both very uncommon names in this day and age!!!

You can try real hard with the first name, but if your last name sucks, oh well. My own was a constant target of playground mockery (it's a nonsensical compound word) until a hot actress who shared it came along and changed everything. Ever since, it's been "Are you related to _______?" Anyway, as a result, I've been kinda fascinated with names, and when I meet someone with an unusual one, I mentally tick off the different mockeries that person must have endured or still do.

I also worked in a hospital for years, with medical records and patient info. We were part of a chain, and the database was huge and went back years. Due to my aforementioned fascination, I went about collecting funny ones that I came across, eventually spending hours and hours searching for more (by the bye, there were twenty-four Michael Hunts. Talk about stupid parents). If I found a good last name, I would pore over the list looking for the best first name of that particular bunch. The resulting list has hundreds of names, many of which cross the border into patently unbelievable. If I hadn't seen the visit histories, SS numbers, etc., I wouldn't believe 'em myself.

Anyway, I don't have any positive suggestions for you, but here’s a bunch from the list to avoid (and it took much restraint to narrow it down to these):

Then again, I have 13 nieces and well over 50 cousins plus their kids, so we have a fair assortment of monikers.

Makes sense, beryl is the name of the mineral from whence both emeralds and aquamarines come.

i really like Rowan, it could be a boy or a girl...gaelic origin i believe. trees and rocks are a good source for names, but yeah, all the above warnings (ala AntiM - hi anti!) are definitely true. and also think about what happens when you move to the deep south...my sister's rather nice name, Kyla, sounded awful to her when it was said more like Carla with a heavy accent...and its no fun to have to spell your name for every one who ever needs to write it down for the rest of your life!
