Our year begins with the building of the New Fire at Green Corn. The Old Fire is also put to sleep at Green Corn, and inot it we place all that hurts and plauges us from year before. We must attend the Building of a New Fire with a clean Heart, Clean Mind, and a Pure Spirit
This Fire is an Infant, and must be cared for the Fire, tend it, feed it carefully and lovingly. Our presence, our behavior at the First Green Corn, sets the tone of its character for the year to come. As we can raise a good child of lousy one.

Green Corn is associated with the East. The East governs the mind, Knowledge, /and Growth, and the Green Corn is where you Learn. The date for for Green Corn is the New Moon when the first corn ripens on the stalks.
