Yeah, I really wanna meet singles...

What I really want is an end to the BS spam.

http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... 711#228711

OK - it was already reported - but jeez, folks, can't we kill this shit??

This wasn't happening 3 weeks ago. Maybe BRC needs its own IT dep't FT to shut this shit down, rather than unpaid volunteers??

This abuse is getting to be too much. That and the "freedom of expression so walk on us" mentallity.

You're a 21st century business. Start behaving like one, not a frigging artist's 60's commune.

Sorry... but enough is enough.

Or maybe if they actually accepted the help of other volunteers. Because the three, oh sorry make that two for the next six months, moderators can really handle it all.

Sorry for my outburst, but I just watched over the weekend another list I'm a member of go dead over a spam attack, a DOS attack, and a hacker. And no one cares this could happen here.

Don't mean to be snarky, sorry. But fer gods sake - get some help. If they turn out to be creepazoids, then withdraw their admin privileges. Whatever.

You got a buncha people who have asked to help time and time again. Some of them (like me! >grins<) have gotten so tired of "volunteering" to help and rejected (mostly latently, ignored as if the offer never was made, or blatantly, as in "we don't need the help") we've gotten burned out on trying, and have gotten, um, "less friendly than average" over being denied over and over, thereby keeping us out of the running, thereby making us snarkier and snarkier, thereby making us even more "undesirable", etc...

See a mobius loop here?

It makes those of us dealing with the flood of socks, etc, for however many months now, who have, with integrity, communicated our commitment to support this fight, want to say...

So long, and thanks for all the fish. >grins<

volunteering... you mean the task of deleting spammer accounts?

or the task of deleting their posts?

or the task of module installation?

i see the topics where people report them to have action taken and thats whats being done right now, so far only emily and spanky are the people to be able to lock accounts. since spanks has a bunch of other things to get to that leaves emily. chai, antiM, me... we can only delete posts and report spammers like everyone else does (well, i dont because i look at other things) but if you are talking about having the technical skills analyzing/installing/testing module updates to phpbb to solve the probelm rather than chasing down its after effects, nope, have not found anyone who has stepped foreward to volunteer.

not disagreeing with you or anyone sue, that was an honest question. i dont understand.

Not to be snarky but I thought DVD Burner has volunteered over and over again to help with this....but his offers have been rebuffed. Correct me if I'm wrong on that but I don't think I am.

Since I run 2 phpBB boards myself I've sent up a suggestion for a module upgrade / tweak or two and it seems to have vanished in File 13.....I'm wondering if there's really a desire to proactively fix the problems or is the admin team stuck in firefighting mode? It seems like it takes a crisis to get action when a little bit of prevention would make things so much easier for all involved. That's my $0.02 on the subject if anyone cares.

i feel the same way... i keep researching, asking, suggesting, pleading for mods to get installed, but despite them only taking a few minutes (according to their description) they still never get installed until there's an issue. it IS frustrating.

and we have had php knowledgable volunteers sign on, get frustrated with the amount of hoops they have to jump through to get access and get unified direction and then they just fade away. i know DVD has put his hand up, but there's history/politics there that makes him an uncomfortable choice.. i think even DVD would admit that.

i'm glad you all care about the board so much, but you're barking up the wrong tree by posting this negativity here. i know that's ironic, but it's true. spanky doesn't keep up with the boards. he's got too many other irons in the fire, and it seems to me, needs real, in the office, not remote, not volunteer, HELP.

Yes. I'll second that - PLEASE, please remove this one - freaking blatant and a huge suck up of bandwidth that could be better used spreading legitimate doom!

Fuckartdamntheman

Post by Neutrality » Sun May 14, 2006 1:18 pm

This one by "fuckartdamntheman", I think, is the work of a spammer masquerading as a troll, intruding on a nonspam thread. He tosses out this flamebait
hey i have a briliant idea! we should burn the man down like 3 or 4 days early as a terrorist act! just to show the people who started this fucking shit that we aint putting up with their bull shit! whos with me? find me at -- deleted -- my name is --deleted --

and once you get to the domain he specifies, you see this

This site may contain sexually explicit images and adult material. Under NO circumstances should this site be viewed by minors or by persons not seeking to view adult material. By clicking on the ENTER button below, you affirm that you are over the age of 18 (or over the legal age in your state/country) and that you are not offended by adult material. A little more subtle than the usual sex spam, but not by much.
